Before punk and new wave erupted in New York City in the late '70s, female pop singers were like carefully crafted charms dangled from a bracelet; they were chanteuses whose sexuality was packaged as the ultimate pop commodity. When the tokenism of '60s rock finally gave way to the rebel yell of late '70s and early '80s punk, female singers pushed a brazen, me-first attitude and redefined tough-girl with a heart of gold, or in Debbie Harry's case, the romantic she is, a heart of glass. And though...
debbie harry is too much..
esa mujer es fabulosa, sorprendente, tiene una vitalidad increible (teniendo en cuenta la edad que tiene) ..era la mujer mas hermosa tocando en el CB GB, y aun en dia lo sigue siendo ..
i love you ..debby
I'm 40 (older than most of you) and she was one of my first celebrity crushes. I was just a kid and thought her name was Blondie (didn't realize that was the band's name). Was a little bit confused when someone corrected me and said she was Deborah Harry and the band was Blondie.
Good to see she's still going. I loved the songs "Call Me" and "Heart of Glass" especially.
i remember the tape recorder my dad gave me - not sure if anyone else had one at the time - it may have been the first on my block..anyways, i got a cassette of Eat to the beat(BLONDIE)that xmas and we all sat around the speaker and listened...it was so much better than the shitty Stones and Beatles records my parents had indoors(baring in mind me mum was a small faces groopie!)...that music transported me to a different world
too young to see Blondie live back in the day i was lucky enough to catch Deborah live with band and a very sick but brilliant looking chris stein!
Also saw the Jazz Passengers and they were great too (esp Debbie - what a voice and what a great sense of humor!!)
Rah...i got so much love for this woman
There;s an amazing BBC documentary on BLONDIE...quite recent..perhaps it is on Iplayer - in it Chris Stein talks about D coming off her methadone too quick and the break down of their *relationship* - totally tragic tho the story Mike Hedges relates of recording their last lp bak in da day is hilarious - Having experienced first hand the total hypocrisy of the coke fuelled music industry i loved this - now i dont want to glamorise heroin use however i see this ting on new years about 2 or 3 years ago while doing yet another brutal home detox on me pal;s sofa and it had me in stitches and for that alone i would give this woman total respect - her voice carried me through many dark days!
Regarding the comment about cycling around London, everyone seems to think cycling is this dangerous thing, yet studies show it's safer than driving a car. The speed of a car overcomes all those safety features - airbags, crumple zones etc.
