It's hard to believe that Love & Rockets is 25 years old. I still remember the first time I read an issue. I was blown away by the way the women were the main focus especially when I saw that the book was written and drawn by two brothers. I got a chance to talk with Jaime [pronounced Yay-mee] Hernandez because the latest collection of Love & Rockets was just released by Fantagraphics. It's called Dicks And Deedees, I agree with Jaime that's its a great place for a new reader to start. All you got to know is that Maggie...

I got the chance to meet Jaime at the San Diego Comic-con this summer. I've met a lot of comic pros, and I'm friends with some big name guys, but i was still pretty nervous talking to him. His work is fantastic. (As is his brother Gilbert's work. Mario, too.)

Love & Rockets introduced me to comics. I still like comics, but I love Love & Rockets. It was about me and my friends, or not about us at all, and it was sexy and stupid and sometimes the characters pissed you off by not giving you the fairytale ending, but it was okay, because that's the way life really is.

If you don't have at least one of the graphic novels, run as fast as you can down to your comic shop and buy one. Hell, buy six. smile

Hernandez Bros. are awesome...Jaime has always had the most economical, yet unbelievably expressive drawing style....not a wasted line. A superb storyteller too. He's completely brilliant.

Any SGs who haven't been turned on to Los Bros. yet, I highly recommend picking up a few of the collections...I guarantee you will love it.

Thanks for the great interview!

ooooooooooh the great Jaime Hernandez

I discovered jaime's comic about ten years ago. I've recently discovered that his characters are real, they DO exist and they're called the Suicide Girls.

Aside from the rendering, Love and Rockets inspired me to create comics, it's attitude being so free to say "fuck it all" and do it.

Jaime has created lasting characters and timeless art. I can sit and stare at his pages for who knows how long and when I see Ray or Maggie, etc., I feel like I'm reading or experiencing something with an old friend. This interview was great and remains one of the coolest things on the site. One question though: Where's Gilbert?!

I am right in the middle of reading the huge hardcover book called "Locas", featuring all the Hopey and Maggie stories since the beginning until the year 1998 and it is beautiful. I am in love with Esperanza Glass!
