While I know annoying fanfic writers everywhere are going to be slobbering disgustingly about this, I still think it's fucking awesome. Good for Rowling.

Rowling...

said that she regarded her Potter books as a "prolonged argument for tolerance" and urged her fans to "question authority."

Round of applause to that. First time I've had reason to respect her except for the grudging respect I have to feel for someone that's done so bloody well in such a short space of time wink

Seems kind of random that she would decide to announce this after the books are all out rather than put it in one of the actual books.

I love the fact that Rowling herself was like the Fan Fiction is going to be insane because of this.

haha

Why? If she'd put it in one of the books, "all sorts of people"* would have been all "ooh, ooh, gay, bad" and tried to get it banned everywhere you can think of. (Teletubbies, remember?) Why would she do that?

*right-wing nutjobs.

This way seems like more of a publicity stunt. It's like her fame is waning and she needs something to jumpstart it or something. Also, adding it on after in an interview instead of putting it in one of the actual books make it seem less legitimate.

Dude, she is richer than the Queen. She owns a fucking castle in Scotland. I think she's going to be okay on the fame front.

yeah, but her roll is slowing. that hurts no matter how rich you are.

Yes. They are all "O noez! His luv for Harry is tru!"

I'm really glad about this news. Also she says that it came up partly because in the new film they were hinting at a het relationship in his past, and she just said "No, he is gay for Grindelwald."

I'd like that part better if she wasn't so keen on women getting married and having babiez.

It's called subtext. Sometimes it's not necessary to spell everything out. Oh wait, this is Rowling we're talking about... good point.

I'm sure she is up late fretting about it on that bed she has made entirely of saffron and diamonds.

please stop being obtuse. having a bajillion dollars often makes people more obsessive about their success* She has to be wondering what she can do to top this, or if she is just going to be owned by the potter legions for the rest of her days.

* at least, I tell myself that when i cry myself to sleep on my moth-eaten couch. in the gutter.

Now, a writer of classic talent would never have overtly said this and instead let people guess and make up their own minds about the subject. What might we infer from Rowling's doing the exact opposite?

Wealth and fame are two very different things. You can be insanely rich and no one knows who you are. You can be broke as fuck and be a household name. I'm not saying she's running out of money, I'm saying she may feel like she's slipping out of the limelight.
