if you consider "the shining" horror (instead of psychological thriller) then that's number one. or evil dead two horror (instead of campy comedy) then that's number one.
if neither of those...i choose KILLER CLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE!!!

yeah I spit on your grave is cool, some people just call it expliotation but there's an underlying commentary going on in that film, notice how she gets prettier toward the end? like she's gaining confidence, not only in herself, but at whats actually happening to her.

It's not really scary even though it's listed as Sci-Fi Horror, but I love it anyways.

Critters 2 ... it's just enough cheese and gore mixed to where I enjoy watching it every time.

The first well-made HP Lovecraft adaptation. To me, that's the holy grail of cinema, and I'm not really a horror fan. Lovecraft's amazing and has never been done justice by filmmakers. What Peter Jackson did for Lord of the Rings, I'd like to see done to ANY HP Lovecraft story, but The Shadow Over Innsmouth would be cool. Dagon tried, but as usual the filmmakers fuck everything up.

Until the move is created, Re-animator is my favorite horror movie.

Candyman and Event Horizon. Oh, yeah.

Also, I know this is sacrilege, but Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows was a very decent horror flick.

Event Horizon all the way. If you are lucky enough to slow-mo it on the part where they are watching the ship log, you will see some of the most fucked up shit ever in a movie. Awesome flick.
Also, anything with J-Lo puke

When it comes to horror I am so old-school. Give me the B&W Universal stuff from the 30's and 40's. Dracula, Frankenstein, the Wolf Man, etc. Atomic bugs from the 50's. Barbara Steele and Christopher Lee in the 60's. Sheer heaven. love love love love

I was gonna throw out Texas Chainsaw Massacre as if it was a given, but seeing the Shining and the Exorcist up there brought that back into perspective...

When I first saw the Japanese version of the Ring (before the American version came out), it scared the shit out of me... Don't know if it would have the same effect now, though...

Does the Wicker Man count as horror or ist hat just suspense?

Horror movies FREAK me out!!! eeek I did movies every Thursday night with my friend in America. She loves Horror so sometimes I'd have to go see her movies.
One of the last freaky movies I saw in America was The Ring- and I dont think I'll ever see a scary movie again. I seriously about crapped purple twinkies all over the theater. Im sure it added to the thrill of the movie for everyone else there- that I was screaming my ass off even through the lame scenes. I bet that crowd HATED me.- Come to think of it- Im sure they did. Whenever Id let out a blood curdeling scream- other people would follow suit. But it was me who would bring it on. My friend just kept laughing whenever I was screaming.
People who have seen that movie on video always tell me- that movie was lame- or how silly it was. Im sorry but it FREAKED ME OUT. Even hubby says it was lame.
Im a huge puss.

Event Horizon, because on top of being fucked as hell( I guess quite literally), It has the best acting in a horror movie ever.

Oh yeah, House of a 1000 corpses was great, just because of all the sick intentional humour. It's a whole different scenario when a director actually Tries to make you laugh during a horror movie, as opposed Freddy vs Jason or Jason X(although Jason X did have the VR camper girls getting beaten). smile

One of my all time favorites since the first time I saw it is Frailty. I guess an argument could be made that it is not a quote "horror" film. Even so it is a brilliant work and gave me a new respect for Bill Paxton. Since I was raised in a fairly strict Christian home I had to explain the Old Testament to a couple of friends of mine after they saw this movie. heh

Silent Night, Deadly Night. There is a rad scene where Santa decapitates some kid while he's sledding down a hill at night, and then his headless body arrives at the bottom to disturb his awaiting friend. Awesome!!!
