When this show first started I was afraid it was going to be some Dawson's Creek type of teen drama.... I watched and was SO surprised. I love the camera work and all the things you described. I'm bummed it has come to this. frown

Also: Julie said her mom was 3 months early from having her baby. Ummmm, no baby born 3 months early is just all fine and gets to come home the next day blah blah blah. Why did they even keep that line in there if there were going to be no baby health issues? It was irritating. I guess because they wanted all that conflict of her having the baby in the season premier and had to explain away the time line. ugh.

thats shit i really liked the show even tho I've only seen the first half of season 1 thanks to some stupid scheduling here in england.

I had heard it was getting a second season, so was pretty excited to see that wasn't the case. Now i'm not so sure.

NBC manages to fuck pretty much every good show they have up, unless it's Heroes. That show is their meat-and-potatoes right now, and if they did ANYTHING that would cause them to lose their fans (or piss off their fans), they'd be in deep shit.

I fucking hate NBC. Last year they fought tooth and nail against CBS (I think) to get Studio 60, then they gave it a shitty timeslot and totally misrepresented the show in the commercials. Guess what happened? CANCELLED. Crossing Jordan? Fucked around for 2 years, then CANCELLED.

Those morons at NBC need to be fired and the company needs to actually ASK the public what it wants instead of giving us what the studio wants.

Bastards.

Studio 60 also had the misfortune of sucking a lot.

I agree. It was distracting and another example of forcing things to happen quickly, instead of letting them develop naturally as they did last season.

I assumed they baby would have major health problems. Very poor executiion.

NBC has a long way to go in the "fucking over good shows" department until they reach Fox-ian levels of ineptitude.

Fox would have canceled Scrubs after four episodes, or shown the first few episodes of Heroes out of order, for example.

Oh, and since we're discussing good shows nobody watches, anyone else out there watching Mad Men?

I couldn't figure out why they canceled The Family Guy. Sure, they brought it back - but only after DVD sales made it obvious that it was a stupid mistake to cancel it in the first place.

Wow, I really need to go tell my friends that we are ugly, stupid and racist. They are going to be absolutely crushed when I break the news to them.

As for the show, this episode is the first one that I watched, and I wasn't impressed with it, especially after my mom talked it up so much. Maybe I should get the first season from my cousin and see how it was in the beginning.

I don't get the show. I played football in high school. Maybe it was just because our team sucked, but football was not that big a deal. We practiced, we played, then we all went our own ways and didn't think about football until the next practice. It certainly wasn't some unifying factor in the lives of everyone involved with the team. And if high school football is really that important to a town... it's kinda sad.

Irrelevant and uninteresting personal anecdote aside, you are aware that high school football is big in Texas (you know, where the show takes place), right?

Then I'm glad I don't live there, because if the show truly is a realistic depiction of high school life in Texas, I would probably have killed myself by mainlining my own vomit a week into freshman year.

it's not that Texas is a bad place, but there are parts of the state where the "national religion" (not a type-o, many of us believe that we are still an independent country) truly is football, and having been to those places... it can be said that the civil rights movement has a ways to go.

I too played high school football and played infront of 30 people, but football is huge in Texas. I mean huge. College ball, pro ball, high school ball. It is obsessed with football and part of the movie was about these kids who just wanted to have fun and play a sport they love and not deal with people on the street that they have to win the state championship.

I'm pretty sure they said 3 weeks early.
