While searching desperately for something to write about I found the following snippet regarding Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Hewitt claims she regularly is approached by people who confuse her with Melinda Gordon, the character she plays on Ghost Whisperer.

"All the time. I'm constantly having people ask me to cross over people, or stopping me and saying, 'Would you just tell my grandmother blah, blah, blah,' " said Hewitt, who will be front and centre this evening as the third season of Ghost Whisperer gets under way

Not the most exciting bit of information. But, it stuck with me for awhile... before exploding, like a Russian nesting doll, into a series of hard to swallow realizations. Though, unlike the dolls, the realizations got larger and more ridiculous as opposed to smaller and more dainty.

- People - actual living, breathing people - confuse Hewitt with her TV character?

-They think she can talk to ghosts? Like, for fucking real?

- They believe anyone can talk to ghosts?

-They believe in ghosts?

- They honestly think, having been freed from both the Earthly realm and their constant, overwhelming stupidity, that any of their dead relatives would want to talk to them?

- People watch Ghost Whisperer?

- Ghost Whisperer is still on the air? In America?

- I bet that somewhere, there exists a Ghost Whisperer t-shirt or embroidered polo shirt, and I bet someone owns it.

- Occasionally that person will put this shirt on, choose not to start their car in a closed, locked garage but, rather, to drive it out and into the world, which as we all know, is filled with people.

"Well, so what, people are dumb," I can almost hear you saying. "This is an isolated situation, not indicative of the majority of people," I again hear you screeching. I agreed with you for a second and then recalled that psychic scam-artist extraordinaire, John Edward was recently on Oprah, where he wasn't outed as a fraud, kicked in the neck and rolled into traffic. Nope, he was celebrated. Oprah, this titan of our times, this kingmaker, this person dictating the behavior and purchases of thousands of middle-aged dolts the world over, endorsed a snake-oil salesman.

James Frey pads a couple of days onto to his so-called prison stay and is publicly crucifed by her Oprah-ness, meanwhile, John Edward claims to talk to ghosts, witches and robots from the future, and she doesn't bat an eye.

I'm sure all of this will lead, some time down the road, to us having to watch a shocked Oprah on national television say to John, "I can't believe you were lying to me, when you pretended to talk to those dead people."

Neither can I, Oprah Neither can I.

umm... i'm a trained paranormal investigator.... i don't talk to ghosts, and i think john edward is a douche, but i do try to help people who are too scared to live in their houses come to terms with whatever is there or not...

i really hope that my belief in ghosts doesn't mean i qualify as "stupid" as this article implies.

There are 49 spaces between lines in the article. There are 40 lines of text. And one of them is simply composed of the word "eye." *

This is really getting irritating, and I take pride in being the only one who cares.

Haha Oprah... have you noticed the people in the audience for her show look exactly the same as the people in the John Edwards audience? Coincidence? They're the same gullible morons who like to be spoon-fed their opinions and believe John Edwards truly is communicating with the dead.

I think also someone sane should mention that ghosts aren't necessarily nice to talk to. Why the fuck do we WANT to talk to them? and hey, most ghosts are really different that Uncle Whatshisname who you miss terribly. Uncle is Beyond. The ghost is fucking here and frankly, likely fucking with you here.

Well, we agree on Edward, I guess. He's a fraud and a crook.

No, I'm not saying everyone who believes in ghosts is stupid. (Though, yes, I am mocking the idea.) I know many people who swear by their ghost sightings. I just think we should be incredibly suspicious of anyone who claims they can communicate with the beyond and are willing to take your money in order to demonstrate it. I'm sure you'd agree that the more hucksters involved the worse it is for everyone.

I'm not 100% ruling out the existence of ghosts nor the possibility that some people may be able to pick up energy or something beyond our understanding but I think the majority of people who make a living this way are lying, cheating predators...

I am curious though, about what kind of training you received and where you got it. As well as what your abilities are.

The groups I work with and have worked with in the past never charged for their services. I was trained by TAPS members. I am trained in EVP recording, EMF meters, and, no, i don not think orbs are paranormal... it's dust, bugs, whatever, but not paranormal. the first thing i was taught was to disprove any bump in the night or sighting before accepting it as a spirit or haunting.

the best rule of investigating is "always be skeptical of any ghostly claim till you can't disprove it"... and that's what i do.

I'm iffy on the whole ghost thing in reality, but on the screen it can make for some great drama. Or comedy. I've heard that actors are constantly confused with the characters they play; I always figured if someone calls out "Highlander!" When they see Adrian Paul, it's because they can't remember his name is Adrian.

I often wonder, if I had one question to ask any particular celeb, what would it be? I think in Jen's case it would be "Could you not talk to anyone who's dead for me, never ever?" just to give her a break.

I was a skeptic on the whole ghost "sightings" thing, too. I am a firm believer in the paranormal though I didn't think with the naked eye people can see ghosts. Until my sighting. Plain as day, two friends as witnesses. All of us described the same thing. I won't go back to that part of my hometown anymore.

As far as mediums go, I'm really doubtful there, though I am sure some exist. John Edward? Puh-leeez. But people believe it because God Almighty, excuse me... Oprah said so. I mean, people bought into Dr. Phil being real and he just yells at people to satiate some undeniable need to be a person of power - something he could never obtain on his own. Oprah fans = moo cows.
