Clidna I never said women with disabilities shouldn't be allowed to be doctors or even women without disabilities. I'm pretty positive I said "should she be allowed more time?". Which I still think is a valid point. It also has much less to do with ADHD and much more to do with the Dyslexia aspect of it as being able to quickly read and interpret written information quickly can be essential as a doctor. If this was a man with a prostate problem who wanted extra time because he had to go to the bathroom all the time it'd be the same deal. You shouldn't get extra time on a test that helps assess your ability to save people's lives. Period. It's a nice thought that everyone should be accommodated but this is one of those areas where accommodations shouldn't be made. Women at one point were oppressed and yeah it's still not completely equal but a lot of women I know have gone on and done really great. I think you need to chill the fuck out, stop blowing things out of proportion, and stop putting words in people's mouths. It's very difficult to have a forum discussion with someone when they can't be rational.

The comment I have has nothing to do with the lactation issue:

Should people who use wheel chairs be accommodated by adding ramps to places they may need/want to access?

The question I just asked is ridiculous. Just like the one you have up there.

Yes! Of course people with disabilities should be accommodated! I think (it's an opinion, of course) people that think otherwise are so fucking self-conscious about their own abilities that they are hoarding their advantages and wanting to keep those with disadvantages...disadvantaged.

Classic story- you see it with the rich and the poor, you see it with the majority and the minority, you see it here.

The obsession we have with ignoring the fact that we are human beings rather than perfect super robots is scary. Give me any person with a job to do and I could name you a list of things that disqualify him/her for the job. Yet, somehow, a whole lot of them do their jobs damn well.

I hope you were just asking that question to cause trouble.

wow... I wonder how many people with the guess she had to get pregnant comments have ever had a child. Its can be painful gong through nursing and any woman who can be a new mother, nurse her child and go to school, and work should be fucking commended. Opinions with no experience or those who just wanna feel like they can talk with no clue need to get a job. Respect to a woman who can do all that. Fuck the rest

I think mine was the only "guess she had to get pregnant" comment. No I have never had a child, because I my husband and I have purposefully kept it that way. Not that I wouldn't like to have a baby. I would love to have a baby. The thing is, I don't just do whatever I want whenever I want it. She made a decision to have a baby during medical school, she should have taken into account the challenges that would present.

Yeah it was half to start another discussion(cause trouble) and half because for example being in a wheel chair doesn't change your ability to do a job having a difficulty processing visual information quickly and coherently in this field does. I probably put it on the same level as the physical requirements to enter the various branches of the armed forces. I have no knowledge of what they are but I don't believe any exceptions should be made there either based on sex or physical conditions or whatever. If I was in the marines and stationed in Iraq you bet your ass I'd hope everyone was as well prepared and able to handle a situation as everyone else and someone wasn't cut a little slack so they could serve. It really does in the end boil down to need on a case by case basis but that can't be accurately(fairly) done, so for the sake of argument I'm sticking with the idea that in certain instances (those where human life or death is involved) people shouldn't receive accommodations. If I was taking that test my becoming a doctor wouldn't hang on what score someone who was given extra time had but rather that I met the qualifications set ahead of time so it really has nothing to do with self confidence. I personally have ADHD I am going into the medical field and plan to either become a Doctor or a Clinical Pharmacologist. I don't think I deserve extra time either even though I could easily get it. So it's not just me preaching from up on high dishing out judgments left and right, but actually applies to my own future.
