I'm lost

Lookit, the writers of this show are very hip and very dialed-in. They are not faking anything, rather are stretching eveything possible in very in-your-face, one thing right after another breathless fashion. Remarkable. I can just tell that they didn't sit down and say "what if the person working there was more than just an office drone but instead a self-actualized, brave, expressive, bold and rightfully calmly centered person; one to be reckoned with?" then sent out some researchers to find some evidence of same. No. You can tell that they sat down and said "what if she's a Suicide Girl?" They already knew what a Suicide Girl is full well. That's why they did such a good job of it. The fact that the actress had makeup and hair people pour all over her is not important; so did the dimbulb boss portrayer, I'm sure. It's just not the point. The show is good. This episode was spectacular. Win-win-win.

i really wish this show was on ITunes, since Weeds, it's promo-ad partner, is. Of course, I only started downloading Weeds when Zooey showed up.

I love me some David Duchovny. I love me some Suicide Girls. Nice to see the combo. What would've been hella-wicked is if they'd just recruited an actual SG to play the part. I know a good number of them are quite excellent actresses.

That said, Rachel Miner's a wonderful, beautiful actress and (from what I've seen) a cool person. I couldn't help chuckling a little, though, when I saw the tattoo choices they made. They pretty much picked every cliche tattoo and placement possible, but it came out looking good nonetheless.

Torrents exist. wink

+1
and also a big plus one to the comment about them keeping her character away from stereotypes like attention crazed, drug addicted, etc.
have not watched it yet, but i will,... torrents!

True that.

Agreed, an actual SG would have been sweet, and the tats were cliche. However, those are still badass temp tattoos when you think back to the ones you had when you were a kid. Could be a fun way to test a tattoo out before you commit to one permanently. Where do I get these?

They can make you one at a tattoo parlor. They use 'em as templates while they ink you in.

Nice that the site gets some exposure, and the show is allright. However, I decided to stop giving it any attention after they used computer-generated nipples on Paula Marshall in episode two. That is just unforgivable, either have a real nude scene or rewrite it, I can't imagine what kind of Pandora's Box that has opened.

stick on tattoos aside, i really didn't like how the suicide girl character was portrayed. Episode spoilers ahead...

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

her boss fires her for being a complete moron so she sends him a link to her SG profile in hopes that he won't fire her. the boss just happens to have an account and we get a rather gross scene of him jerking off to her set. he of course then doesn't fire her, cause now he wants to fuck her. she spills his coffee all over the place and then lets him SPANK her as punishment. what the fuck?

does anybody else mind that they're portraying suicide girls as total skanks who'll do anything just to keep their jobs?

lametastic.

the program's not called "DaniCA-fornication" - she's still merely an ancillary character.

I was going to comment in a very similar fashion. It's not the show's purpose to educate the masses on the nature of SG. I think using an existing element of the subculture lends a little more credibility to it, instead of trying to make up their own. TV shows will always have inconsistencies when fictionalizing elements of the real world, especially if it's so peripheral to the main story. Sometimes it's artistic license. Sometimes it's just crappy research. It's fiction; roll with it.

+1, i didn't see the show, but i'm sure they aren't going to spend the whole show talking about how sg "really is". that's a waste of time and it's not like the whole series is about SG. just one episode.

also "does anybody else mind that they're portraying suicide girls as total skanks who'll do anything just to keep their jobs?"

no. this was one girl. not a whole representative of every girl on the planet. or every SG on the site.
you could make that generalization for anything...legally blonde? omg that represents EVERY blonde college girl there ever was! no, it doesn't. it's an example of one girl.

yes but the difference is that there are not that many representations of SG out there. so this is what most people are going to think of now when they hear the word "Suicide Girls".

That's how I felt as well when I saw it. One of my mates (who's account is expired at the moment) was like "OMG SUCIIDEGIRL ON CALIFORNICATION WTFBBQ!!", and I didn't get the chance to see the episode til the next day. I knew she wasn't a "real" SG, but was still kinda excited that the writers would show the site as a way of empowering women and all that jazz. But instead it just showed her boss beating off and spanking her, pretty much lowering it to porn (gotta stress that its only porn in my eyes, probably not in a lot of other people's!) And I know that yes, this site is basically porn cos of teh naked ladies, but I see it as a lot more than that, and was hoping that Californication would as well.

Now, us members know that the site is very different from that (in most cases), but I can't help but think of what people who have had little to know exposure to the site would think of it.

Also, the huge SG tattoo on her arm looked a bit tacky. I've seen a few cool SG tattoos on members and girls around here that looked awesome, but this one was just... meh. But all of this is just my opinion, and I'm glad some people did enjoy it. smile

if you look at the slightly altered box at the top right, he has the "My SG" link, and hence is logged in. iirc, he also had the message/comment/friend request counts.

the fun question now is: what's his username, and did staff create a fake profile for him too?

i think people are smart enough to know the difference between a girl who happens to be a suicidegirl, and an actress on a show... and are you saying that EVERY suicidegirl is totally pure? are you sure none of them have ever used their sexuality as a tool to get a job?

*sigh*
