The only thing I got out of this whole article is the humongous dispair I will feel when Conan leaves. NOOO! frown

Hmm, I guess I must be a fan of late nite talk shows. Never thought about it. I grew up watching Carson with the Grandparents and I've been watching Dave for 20 years now. Maybe longer. When an interview is really, really good, it can be genuinely entertaining - uplifting, humorous, infuriating, etc. And music, I've seen so many great performances on Letterman I could never come close to remembering them all. A couple recent favorites....

Billy Corgan is also way too old to be shopping at Hot Topic, in my opinion. It's like watching my dad getting dolled up for Halloween or something.

When Harry Met Sally... is the template for the new incarnation of the romantic comedy (which no movie has managed to match since).

For this reason alone I would like to disqualify Billy Crystal.

And maybe it's personal bias talking, but is the late night talk show really still a viable and relevant format anymore? Are we just arguing over who would be the best candidate to board a sinking ship based on his bucket-handling skills?

Besides all that, comedian <> host. Someone can conceivably be both, but never ever immediately qualifies as such. Given Crystal's handling of the Oscars (which can inarguably be described as not horrible), I'd give him an edge in this race.

Billy Crystal played a very funny role in Woody Allen's "Deconstructing Harry," which I think was Woody's last great flick. And I actually think he was decent as an Oscars host.

Fallon on the other hand has NEVER been good, and his I-want-to-punch-him-in-the-face factor is just off the charts. Now that he's throwing his career permanently in the toilet by becoming a talk show host, we can say with some finality that he will never be good either.

Amen on the Crystal-Williams-Goldberg Axis of Unfunnyness.

OK, that cracked me up. No arguement there. lol They still killed it at the Fillmore shows, though. And I dug the black and white stage clothes on the band, it worked for me. But that still cracked me up.... Hot Topic jokes do that for me.

Ehhhh, and here's the TV on the Radio clip. Not sure how I messed this up before. Hennyway, even Dave gets excited at the end. Great stuff.

Chevy Chase was in some really funny movies and yet had the worst talk show ever. Billy Crystal never made a really funny movie - When Harry met Sally was funny in sort of an effeminate don't-tell-your-friends-you-like-it kind of way. So my vote, everyone get their cable turned off. Sopranos is over.

Had anybody ever heard of Conan before he started hosting Late Night?

In other words, OH NO! Some asshole's gonna be hosting a show I'm rarely both awake and sober enough to care to watch anyway!

I kinda liked Fallon in the Pepsi commercial... trust me, I know how strange that is, my husband pointed it out numerous times. Other than that, I haven't got much of a use for him.

Oh, and PS: Leave Billy Corgan out of this!!!

My over-all indifference to this entire fiasco is marred by the fact Conan is leaving and being replaced by one of the least funny people I can think of. He's the best person there was to replace Conan? Did comedy really die with Bill Hicks?

Best doesn't seem to have much to do with it, I could name 10 people better suited for the job, as could anyone... But, somehow, this tool got it.

Bill Hicks, AS IS, could do a better job than Fallon.

While the suggestion that a dead person could do a better job than Jimmy Fallon is amusing, Bill Hicks was painfully unfunny.

It's articles like this that prove that SG needs a "satire" heading. TheCoolerKing is clearly trying to write a funny story based on his personal POV. Labeling it "news" is misleading. Most of the commentary in threads like this are from people who take fluff like this too seriously.

That said, it's not funny. Cooler King's articles mostly have to do with his general ignorance of just about any entertainer who first appeared before, say, 1996. Until there's a "satire" heading, this should be a blog.

Zooey Deschanel constantly infuriates me. Throw her into the mix of the "Isn't-The-Sound-I'm-Making-With-My-Voice-Just-Hilarious?" and "Aren't-I-Making-A-Funny-Face?" and "Watch-Me-Be-Totally-Outrageous!" humor that Jimmy Fallon brings, and you've got a recipe for FAIL.
