Rumor has it that back in November, 2006, Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns sparked a joint with Australian Parliament member Peter Garrett and U2s Bono while the group lounged coolly on Bonos bed, listening to early demos of Silverchairs latest album, "Young Modern." Oh, the scandal. What happened next was a series of public apologies, where Johns insisted that when hed told that story during a radio interview, he meant it purely as a joke. "I guess I felt a bit like a name-dropper mentioning...
Incredible album. Album of the year possibly. Definitely top 5, unless 5 of the best albums ever made are released before years end. Download it if you have to, although buying it would be preferred. But opening your ears and listening to this album is absolutely worth an hour of your life. It may even enrich it in some way. Genuine thanks (I'm grinning from ear to ear) to SG staff for this one.
Young Modern is the best album of 2007 in my opinion.
The album as a whole takes a bit to get into, but once you understand what they're (he's) trying to do, you really get the feel, and it's breathtaking.
This is one band (of very few) that never stops getting better. They keep taking musical turns that leave me begging for more.
I still can't believe that this band is the bunch of punk-ass teens from down under, all grunged-out and angsty.
Hey, if I want to post a youtube video I made with this wacky punk rock girl and it's for a book my friend wrote coming out, and all that. Is that against the rules? It's pretty un-corporate by any standards. I sure as hell didn't have no lighting guy or anything. I did all the music myself, too. And the girl in it, is a rocker.
Is it art? yes... and man... shouts out to my peeps and my bo's.
I remember everyone making fun of SilverChair back in the day. To be fair I haven't heard anything since the first album. I guess people give you respect for staying around this long.
HUGE in Austrailia- I mean huge. My roomate on and off lives there- so I guess I should say my on and off roommate.
I'm so glad my high school crush turned out to be hot, I don't feel as stupid. I still have the hots for Daniel Johns crazy. And his pierced nipples, and actually his hot ass wife too...

I suppose that's mostly true, maybe not for all bands, though. But Silverchair has always been around. At least up until the last few years when they took a break and Daniel did a little side project thing called The Dissociatives. Anyway, they've always been around, just not "popular" in the states. I have a lifelong friend whose been a huge fan since Frogstomp, so I've listened to each of their albums as they were released. There's been a very natural progression to Daniel's songwriting and I think that's more why they are still around than anything else. I also think it's well deserved. The new album really is quite incredible.
i almost forgot about them til i read this, then i went and got all my old cd's and put them on my itunes. good interview and thanks for re-introducing them into my life.
