after my journey last night [ see my journal ], ive grown insanely interested in abandoned towns and exploring them. ever been to one? it's fucking awesome, im so excited about finding more in the near future.

this is a view of the traintracks we walked along to get from the town. its just awesomely spooky. [ when we went, however, it was completely dark, so it wasnt nearly as sinister looking...]

Jerome, Arizona. Southwest of Sedona is a really cool old ghost town, complete with old abandoned gold mines and narrow gauge railroad. Old shacks and I'm told, but i doen't know if it's true or not, that the singer of Tool lives there. That should prove how weird a town it is.

Is that mission peak in the background of that second pic? I may have actually been to that one when I was little.

"Above is a view of the Coyote Creek Lagoon area, looking west from the Monument Peak Trail in the hills above Fremont and Milpitas. This shows the complex network of salt ponds, sloughs, creeks, and lagoons in this area. Coyote Creek Lagoon runs along the center of the picture. On the left side are the salt ponds at Alviso. Running along their north edge is Coyote Creek itself, eventually flowing into San Francisco Bay. Coyote Creek branches at the south end of Coyote Creek Lagoon, part of it flowing into the lagoon, and the main part flowing out to the Bay. On the north side of Coyote Creek is Station Island and the ghost town of Drawbridge. Mud Slough runs along the north side of Station Island.and joins Coyote Creek just beyond it. Mud Slough runs along the north edge of Coyote Marsh Lagoon. North and west of it are salt ponds"

A friend and I did a cross-country drive a few summers ago. We were in a big rush (we had three days to make it from NYC to LA), but we still stopped in at every weird abandoned structure we could find in New Mexico, Arizona and the eastern part of California. If I can find any of those pictures, I'll scan them and post them here.

I was always kind of disturbed about abandoned gas stations and industrial sites, though, because that's just begging for industrial accidents.

I stopped by a ghost town on a road trip out west...I don't remember where exactly. It had been turned into a tourist attraction, and subsequently abandoned again, so it had a weird double ghost thing going on.
Then a peacock showed up, stared at us for a minute, and moseyed along on its way. surreal

I think there's some remnants of the old mining town in Almaden Quicksilver Park in San Jose.

My favorite thing to do for a while was look for the old bunkers, batteries and forts built along the West Coast. These ones in the Marin Headlands are amazing. There's also a really creepy one at Devil's Slide in Half Moon Bay (can't find a picture).
