Roasts used to be about roasting great comics that paid their dues...now it just seems that any douchebag who has had 15 minutes of fame gets roasted...

Don't get me wrong, Public Enemy was the SHIT...but Flavor Flav is now one of the most annoying people on the planet imho...

Didn't they roast Pamela Anderson too?

The only thing entertaining about that roast was when they dug into Courtney Love.

So you were off fighting space pirates or something during Comedy Central's last dozen or so of these? A "genuine" roast hasn't been done (and publicized on Comedy Central with the attendant hype) in I don't know how long.

You're thinking about Friars Club roasts, and they still do that.

Comedy Central filmed five of these roasts, the last one for Chevy Chase, but it was so incredibly demeaning to the poor guy that the Friars Club has since not allowed Comedy Central back, and they have never again aired that roast.

Instead Comedy Central continued with roasts of their own, starting with Dennis Leary. Frankly, that's perfectly fine with me. I haven't watched any of them in a while.

The William Shatner roast was fantastic. I'm looking forward to the Flavor Flav roast; some of the preview jokes are pretty funny.

Or "Who has that much gold in their teeth? It looks like you gave C-3PO a blow job and forgot to swallow."

And..and..."As a member of Public Enemy, you stuck it to the man. You still enjoy sticking it to the man, and that man is Bridgette Nelson."

I'm a bit embarrassed to say that I think this looks kinda funny.

Also, Flavour Flav should leave the planet, on the grounds that he is a complete twat.

The only thing more annoying than Comedy Central roasts is their ad nauseum advertising for them.

I actually ventured out to a friends house to watch this.
It did not fail to disappoint in the disappointment department. There were a few good zingers but it mostly just made me cringe. blackeyed

Yeah, this is a long way from the old Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts.

Hmm, Frank Sinatra or Flava Flav? That's a tough one.

I found out last night that Flavor Flav can't write a joke for shit. He's all "only black people understand you! Skkkkkggggggg-ah-hah-hah!"

...really, I'm ROFLing, dude.

The only thing about Flava's comebacks at the end of the Roast that made me laugh was how BAD it was..... It was painful I was laughing so far at such a miserable speech.

That, and how easy it was to tell that brigette can't tell a joke for shit, her writer's were probably wanting to slap her after the show. "How DARE you fuck up all the good jokes we wrote for you. DUM Koff!!" tongue

You know the roasts have hit an all time low when they replace Andy Dick with Carrot Top.

yes, she is great. also the way that everybody got up and ripped hard on carrot top made the whole thing hilarious. i enjoyed it personally. a true roast is as the OP said supposed to be about a comic, but fuck it, it was funny anyway.

Ugh. I can't stand Lisa Lampinelli. For me, she's the epitome of comics who try to be "edgy!", "outrageous!", and "un-PC!" (faux quote marks intentionally added) like Lenny Bruce or Bill Hicks without realizing that their cases the obscenity was actually part and parcel of cogent and thought-provoking social commentary.

Just me though.
