Roasts used to be about roasting great comics that paid their dues...now it just seems that any douchebag who has had 15 minutes of fame gets roasted...
Don't get me wrong, Public Enemy was the SHIT...but Flavor Flav is now one of the most annoying people on the planet imho...
So you were off fighting space pirates or something during Comedy Central's last dozen or so of these? A "genuine" roast hasn't been done (and publicized on Comedy Central with the attendant hype) in I don't know how long.

You're thinking about Friars Club roasts, and they still do that.
Comedy Central filmed five of these roasts, the last one for Chevy Chase, but it was so incredibly demeaning to the poor guy that the Friars Club has since not allowed Comedy Central back, and they have never again aired that roast.
Instead Comedy Central continued with roasts of their own, starting with Dennis Leary. Frankly, that's perfectly fine with me. I haven't watched any of them in a while.
I actually ventured out to a friends house to watch this.
It did not fail to disappoint in the disappointment department. There were a few good zingers but it mostly just made me cringe.

What was the "Bea Arthur has a penis" joke count?
i wouldn't fuck bea arthurs penis with andy dicks pussy.
The only thing about Flava's comebacks at the end of the Roast that made me laugh was how BAD it was..... It was painful I was laughing so far at such a miserable speech.
That, and how easy it was to tell that brigette can't tell a joke for shit, her writer's were probably wanting to slap her after the show. "How DARE you fuck up all the good jokes we wrote for you. DUM Koff!!"

I just love Lisa Lampinelli's turn in every roast she's in. She's always a highlight in my book.
yes, she is great. also the way that everybody got up and ripped hard on carrot top made the whole thing hilarious. i enjoyed it personally. a true roast is as the OP said supposed to be about a comic, but fuck it, it was funny anyway.

Ugh. I can't stand Lisa Lampinelli. For me, she's the epitome of comics who try to be "edgy!", "outrageous!", and "un-PC!" (faux quote marks intentionally added) like Lenny Bruce or Bill Hicks without realizing that their cases the obscenity was actually part and parcel of cogent and thought-provoking social commentary.
