For the 15 years that the San Diego Fire Department has been a part of the Pride parade, participation has been voluntary for San Diegos firefighters. However, when the firefighters who had volunteered for this years Pride parade cancelled one day before the event for personal reasons, including a death in the family, San Diegos openly lesbian fire chief Tracey Jarman ordered the crew from one of the stations along the parade route to fill in. As fire department spokesman Maurice Luque said:
"At the last minute the crew in that community was asked to step up and represent our agency in the parade. We have a responsibility and we take it seriously to participate in these parades."
However, the four firefighters tapped to ride in this years Pride parade promptly freaked out when they found themselves surrounded by gay folks, and are now attempting to sue the city and the fire department for sexual harassment.
While local papers reported that the crowd yelled heroes at the firefighters as they rode along the parade route behind an assortment of antique police cars driven by the San Diego Police Department, and the fire department claims that this is the first time in 15 years that firefighter participation in the Pride parade has resulted in a claim of sexual harassment, lawyers from the conservative Christian Thomas More Law Center who are handling the firefighters case described the parade this way:
During the course of the ensuing three hour long ordeal, the firefighters were subjected to vile sexual taunts from homosexuals lining the parade route. This included the following statements: show me your hose, you can put out my fire, youre making me hot, give me mouth-to-mouth, you look hungry, why dont you have a twinkie? (from a man wearing a Girth and Mirth t-shirt), and blow my hose.
The firefighters were also targets of gross sexual gestures to include the following: exposure of genitals, blowing kisses, grabbing of the crotch, rubbing of nipples, tongue gestures, men hugging and kissing one another passionately, many of them wearing make-up and dressed like women.
Yes, once again the homosexual agenda has unleashed the most feared weapon in its arsenal: Men hugging other men.
Since the parade Tracey Jarman has issued an apology and met with the four firefighters but they still plan to sue. Richard Thompson, president of the Thomas More Law Center, called Jarmans actions
another example of how radical homosexual activists in positions of authority force their agenda on unwilling citizens.
Im sure that the Thomas More Law Center, which considers itself the sword and shield for people of faith fighting the culture war, doesnt have an agenda they try and force on unwilling citizens.
The lawyers for the firefighters did take care to point out that the firefighters were not physically assaulted during the Pride parade.
If youre wondering who is physically assaulted during San Diegos Gay Pride, the answer is sadly not that surprising: Gay people.
I feel a little torn on this. As a bisexual, I'm a little embarassed when gay people do things like this. Jarman, should not have forced those men to be involved with this function when participation had been voluntary before. I am one million percent in favor of gay pride functions, but I don't think that they should be an opportunity to break the law. Sexual harassment is a crime. Exposing ones self in public is a crime. Gay pride functions are not an excuse to commit crimes.
As a woman, I understand how disturbing sexual harassment can be. It can be a humiliating and haunting experience and I cannot bring myself to blame the men for wanting repercussions for those who were responsible. However, the city is not who was responsible. Jarman is not responsible either.
OH NO!! It's the militant homosexuals!! Run for the hills, or the outhouse whatever. Maybe Im a bit on the liberal side for my perticular party *gulp* Republican, but seriously the "... example of how radical homosexual activists in positions of authority force their agenda on unwilling citizens" thats like saying that hetros are pressing our agenda on the unwilling citizens when we make out in public, I for one don't but, do what you have to do to be happy. I mean seriously this world is a big enough stink hole without people trying to tell you how to live. If a person is gay who cares, if a person is strait who cares what they do in their personal time is none of my or anyones buisness. As for the firefighters, take it as a complament. I have been hit on by gay men before *ask and I'll tell, but too long a story to go into here* and as a rule I have always looked at it like "Hell yeah I'm sexy" I know how good it feels to be objectafied some times. Now if it were to be a constant thing, it would get annoying, so I thank God I don't look like Vin Deisel, or whatever the hunk of the day is. but they should take it with a grain of salt. And joke back, if a guy flashes you say "It looks like a penis only smaller" or something seriously. Have fun with life or you'll never get out alive.
Shit, then every woman who's walked past a city construction site could sue every city in this country.
Well, only if the women worked for the city and were ordered to walk past the contruction site for something outside of their job description.
But yeah; seems like a stupid lawsuit that the anti-gay people are going use for their agenda.

The issue here is not that the firefighters were subjected to homosexual verbal abuse, but that their employer forced them to do it.
Fuck man, at least try to see things from their point of view, they're the ones risking their lives trying to save us and keep our cities from burning down. They're not just a "bunch of fucking wimps".
I don't know for sure that the firefighters in question were sexually harassed. I don't know for sure that they were traumatized. But I DO know that being ordered to participate in an event that specifically celebrates something sexual is not cool. Would it be OK for them to be orderd to participate in a NAMBLA march? What about a "National Doggystyle Day" parade?
Even if it has nothing to do with sex, ordering them to participate in and support something against their will is wrong.
Do I think they deserve a couple million dollars? No. Not really. But I think they were wronged. But I don't think it's that big a deal.
That's fucked up!!.......I can totally understand the Fire Fighters position on this. However a law suit is absurd!!!!.........We live in times of political correctness unfortunately!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....So my question is where the fuck was the chief????....If she's a Lesbian SHE should have represented the department, in lieu of the volunteer crew who bailed, Instead of ordering a crew (who obviously felt different) on duty. It certainly would've been better to have the the chief representing the Department instead of a few Fire fighters who may or may not agree with the parades theme. I for one love the pride parades, Vancouver has an awesome one every year !! I love It although I'm straight!! ( It's even crazy that I have to say that but)) It's great!!.(but that's me) forcing others to participate who may feel different is Fucked!!!!
so i talked to my gay cousin about this and we both agreed. both sides went to far. while i believe that a man can love who ever he wants. people that are opposed to it should not be forced to take part in things they dont believe in.
my cousins gay. im not. and he gives me the choice if i want to go to gay clubs with him or not.........and yes i do go, because damn those guys know how to party.
I'm all for gayness and pride parades and drag shows - I love 'em.
But I also feel that it's not right to force people to participate if they don't want to. I can definitely understand the firefighter's position, but I agree that it sets a shitty precedent. Cause if I get to sue people for harrasment for making unwanted lewd remarks at me, I'll never have to work again! Yay! (The irony is that most of my harrasment happens at work. And I work in a medical testing facility, not a stripclub.)
There are many things that employers make employees do. If being a part of the parade is part of the departments regular activities, then there is nothing wrong about making someone do it. Public relations is an important part of business and showing support for the people in the community is part of keeping the public happy. One should just learn to just grin and bear it..... At least they were allowed to wear their uniforms.
If this were a bunch of lesbian feminists forced by their employer to march in a pro-life rally would you tolerate me calling them wimps? I think not.
The chief should have asked who would be willing to represent the dept and let them have a blast.
I have to ask though... where is the ACLU? Why aren't they stepping up to represent the firemen? Or do the firemen and their beliefs not fit into an ACLU protected class? Hmmmm... very curious.

Their employer did not force them to be subjected to abuse. Their employer had them participate in a city event.
Saying that the city is responsible for its citizen's lewd behavior during a parade or other event is stupid.
If it were a parade with straight women as attendees, my bet is they wouldn't be offended if the same remarks were made to them.
At best, I could see them (firefighters) not having to participate in a gay parade again. But a lawsuit is frivolous.
I think they are right to sue....If a woman had those things said to her by a man no one would raise one damn eye brow about them suing.... so why the fuck is it wrong for a man to do the same....just because a man said it to him... the plain and simple truth was they were put where they were not comfortable....they received verbal abuse. Take sex out of the fucking equation for one damn minute...think about it as one person being told those things by someone else...
First, in an exclusive interview with Fox News (surprise!) one of the firefighters said that participating in a Gay Pride parade was more stressful than dealing with burning bodies in burning buildings and traffic accidents involving children. Wow. Issues.
Second, the San Diego Fire Department has already changed their policy and will no longer order any firefighters to participate in the Pride parade. Shockingly, the conservative Christian lawyers arguing on behalf of the firefighters don't think it's enough.
Why didn't the gay firefighters of San Diego drive/ride the fire truck? In a city that large with as many firefighters there has to be enough to man the truck for the parade. I am sure that they could have stepped up with some witty comebacks to a few verbal taunts from the crowd.
IMHO the non-gay fire fighters should not have been forced to participate in this type of parade. It should have been a choice thing. If no body stepped forward why didn't the CHIEF DRIVE THE DAMN TRUCK HERSELF!!!!
