I recently got put on birth control pills (ortho-tricylin) and by recently, I mean this past Sunday. In the warnings it says that the effects of alcohol are magnified..

I'm a casual drinker, and I was wondering if anyone had any advice because I've been too scared to drink since I started. Should I really be worried?? shocked

Nah. Go ahead and drink.

...no, really. I'm on Ortho Tri-Cyclen as well and I drink occasionally. I've had no problems.

My friend's wife just recently told me how the pill actually works. But I'd say the boards aren't the best place for medical type questions.

I think the more worrying thing is smoking.... you shouldnt have more than 5 smokes a day ....

but have the occasional drink wink

Yup... smoking increases your chance of blood clots and such.

I've never noticed a difference when drinking, and I'm taking Demulen (another Pill). The only thing I've heard about Ortho is that a lot of my friends switched to Demulen after Ortho turned them into psycho bitches. tongue

She would walk around in a circle and open her mouth in a big O while her eyes were wide as dinner plates?

My girlfriend uses orthocyclen and drinks. She's fine.

For those of you using ortho tri-cyclen, have you ever felt like the constantly varying hormone levels had a big effect on your emotional stability? My girlfriend used it for a few months and said that it felt like she was always trying to catch up to her hormones.

what he said. i'd worry less about the alchold and worry more about the weight gain and the emotional status. i've had several girlfriends switch off ortho because of such.

Yup... I've heard this countless times... if Ortho gives you issues, switch to Demulen. I've loved it for years, and my friends made the switch after they played hormone and emotional catch-up for months.

As far as drinking goes, just try it and see. If you notice that your tolerance goes way down or you feel really sick, then you'll know that it isn't going to work for you.

Thanks you guys. I feel a bit calmer with it now. I hope that I don't experience those mood swings... cos that would suck since I just got stable.

But yea, I quit smoking a week before I started taking them. No way am I gonna have a stroke/heart attack/blood clot. tongue

Guys, have you ever felt that, with a condom on, casual drinking is just a little awkward?

Especially when it's red.
