By cat people I mean having the pets, not the furry fetish.
I've got an eleven-year-old cat, who tends to be bitchy in general. I had to put her brother down about a month ago and I've got a little kitten I'm fostering. So far he's been curious and friendly, and she refuses to come upstairs anymore. Hisses at the sight of him.
I figured on that.
I don't expect her to turn mother on him and be all sweet, I'll be happy with plain tolerance.
Anyone ever had this kind of situation work out? What'd you do?

protect the kitten, but let them get used to each other. she's probably going to be bitchy for a long long time.
your best hope I'd say is that she'll generally tolerate the kitten, but who knows. if she's been around another cat for a long time, I'd say chances are greater that she will eventually tolerate the kitten and get along. but the house was her territory, so she's going to have to get used to allowing him in her territory. and that will take time.
I have a cat, and a dog...specifically a puppy. we're trying to get them used to each other, and it's slowly happening, but generally the cat ain't happy about it.
this pretty much sums it up.
I've seen cats live on different floors for years, and only getting together cause the food bowls were in the same room.
