Grammar Freaks do not lighten up.
"The gay" used in this instance can be used like other mass nouns indicating similar situations like "the water"
ex: "The water drowned the citizens of southern Sverige."
or "The flu this year has been awful."

While the article is awesome, I cannot let it pass.

I was a grammar freak once. A few beers will clear that up. (Okay, maybe more than a few beers....)

I caught a watered down strain of the geigh called 'the bi' a few years ago. Still haven't managed to shake it.

I live in Sweden, Uppsala but I have been in Stockholm while the parade has been going on, last year. I find it utterly vulgar. Don't get me wrong: I have nothing against gays and it should be that they should never have to be discriminated in society, but why parade the street in vulgar clothes (or no all) to prove something? Why couldn't it be tasteful?

Because if it were tasteful, then no one would pay attention.
It's MARDI GRAS, but less one sided.
And packs a punch, bringing out supporters of gay rights.

That movie looked so much better before I actually saw it.

Around the same time that definite changed spellings.

And I think "the geigh" started around the time that "definitely" went through the "definately" phase all the way into "defiantly".

And so, being defiant came to mean being sure of oneself.

(And wannabe linguists everywhere rejoiced. For they could be defiantly geigh. In vulgar clothing.)
