Thansk for all the input peepz, but...i'm still sorta just as confused as ever. frown So let me ask it to be whittled down a bit.

Which system is best for racing and science fiction games?

[Edited on Aug 21, 2003 by Max16Characters]

a playstation 2

because if its on the xbox (small library of games) then its already out on the playstation 2 which has a larger library so that the better system.

if i were you i would hold out for the psx 2.5
which is a complete multimedia game system with dvd recorder and some other features.

that would be my next system if i buy any.

p.s. who cares how good the graphics are if the games are half ass produced and suck robot

p.p.s: did you know you can run linux on xbox and run linux programs bok

oops i meant ps2 silly me like bill gates would let that happen.

Yeah, plenty of console games are coming to the PC. Heck, both GTA games are available for the PC, but I still see those games trumpeted as reasons to own a PS2.

Plus, the cost of upgrading my rapidly aging home PC to even barely play games like Halo and especially KOTOR (not to mention Doom 3) is much, much more than the cost of an Xbox, plus then I wouldn't be able to play JSRF, Buffy, MechAssault, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Brute Force, and all the other good to amazing Xbox exclusive games. Not to mention upcoming games that look to kick ass, like Fable, Psychonauts and Crimson Skies, not to mention Halo 2.

Right now, depending on your tastes, there are enough amazing exclusive games on each console to make them worth owning, as well as having a decent gaming PC.

And I'd take this "Microsoft is evil trying to dominate the videogame industry" stuff seriously if Sony and Nintendo weren't trying to do the exact same thing.

Here's a concept since I've at one time owned all 3 of these systems.

If you have friends with any of the systems, see if you can borrow it for a few days or week or whatever and get a feel for it. If you have a place you can rent a system for, do that.

They all have their ups and downs, pros and cons...but until you've really spent some time with one you won't really know what you're going to like no matter how good other people do at describing them.

It's kind of like buying a new car...I'd assume you'd test drive it before you bought it and not just plop down cash because Suzie and Tommy got one and said it's cool. biggrin

Cool, you can look forward to playing Halo, 3 years after it's release.

Why should I care when exactly a game comes out? I saved myself a bunch of money and get to play it on a more powerful machine. I'm sure all the people who had to wait a bit longer for GTA 3 and Vice City to come out for PC aren't bitching too loudly.

I think I speak for a lot of non-PC enthusiasts when I say if I had an extra fifteen hundred dollars, I would run right out and buy a box capable of playing all these games. Probably. If I set it up right. And it likes me.

But seriously, there's a fairly obvious attraction to $200 systems that can play games right out of the box.

I'm not a PC enthusiast, but I think most gamers usually have half decent PC's anyway, so the justification for buying a console that is essentially a PC that can't do anything but play games is pretty thin. I own a GC and a PS2 and there are plenty of games that are only going to be out on those consoles. Xbox has no real exclusives. Wait a bit, and you'll get a better version on PC (ie Splinter Cell, Halo, KotOR).

PS2 uses its own distro of Linux, you don't need to do anything to run Linux on it (though I don't know how to do anything with the Linux in the PS2). You can run Linux on Xbox, but in most cases that means modding it and then you can't run it on Live.

FreeBSD is better than Linux anyway. wink

Good advice... if you can borrow one thats ideal. All 3 have a different feel and the game types vary so much, playing may be the only way to get a true feel for the one you like.

That's easy. PS2. Gran Turismo 3 is always at the top of the racing list. Then come all the acrade racers, each with their own tiny bit of origional material: the Test Drive series, the Midnight Club series, the Burnout series, the Ridge Racer series, and so on.

Science Fiction is a pretty broad genre. When I think Sci-fi, I think fighting robots. The Armored Core series, Mechwarrior, & Gun Griffon Blaze. Crazy space games are common to all systems. GC to a far lesser extent, of course.

Yeah, yeah. Metroid. We know.
