Ok, did a quick search on this and didn't see any topics (but i could have missed it and i have dial up so i'm sure you feel my pain). At any rate, i'm contemplating someday getting one of these systems and i'm wondering about the opinions of yinz SGers on here about which system is the best in terms of graphics, fun games, what-you-get/price, and all around fun-ness.

I gots a Gamecube and XBox. I have had the Gamecube for a while, i waited till the price dropped and they were giving away free games, which happened to be when Metriod Prime came out, which was when I was going to get one anyway, and they seem to have specials or deals everytime a big title comes out. I like the Cube for the graphics and titles that nintendo holds the rights too...but then I got an XBox the other day so I could play the new Star Wars game, which was pretty great, and I wanted something that had some good driving games or other 2 player stuff so I could play with my roommate at the same time also. The XBox also playes DVDs, but you have to buy a $30 adapter first though, still the price just dropped for the XBOx also, so that was an incentitive too...

This year the Xbox is touting some awesome games. And as for graphical power where there you have it aswell. Along with supported HDTV support and lagless Xbox live support. Oh hell yeah.

Can't lose.

lol.

If you want "short" videogame fixes. Get a GC. If you want a gigantic game library from tons to chose from get a PS2. If you want better graphics, good online play and a game library that is picking up steam amazing well this year, I say Xbox.

go for gamecube. It's got the games you're looking for. If you don't own a dvd player or a gamer pc, then go for the xbox. It's a computer made for gaming with a dvd player upgrade for $30.

i was planning to buy an xbox but i didn't like any of the games for the system, plus i hate microsoft... i ended up getting a gamecube and am really happy with it. basically it breaks down this way- PS2 has the most games, xbox has the best graphics, and gamecube has all the best exclusive games like metroid prime and mario sunshine. don't get a PS2, get an xbox if you like boobs and blood, and get a gamecube if you like mario and mega man.

*cough* Final Fantasy *uncough*
Sorry, I'll never trust nintendo again, I feel betrayed by not only the 64, but by all of their franchises maybe short of Metroid, maybe I'm a purist but I'll stick to my SNES til the day I die and while I still enjoy the new Mario & Zelda games, not enough to buy a gamecube and I think they could be better.

the 64 had fewer than 10 must own games and I will never be stuck like that again

although physically inferior, I stay with PS2, first and foremost for squaresoft- I mean squarenix now, but also the library. The DVD player and the fact that the X-box and Gamecube controllers suck doesn't hurt either.

Nothing wrong with owning any or 2 or more of them, PS2 is just my preference

gamecube:

best quality games

fastest load times

best controller they took th n64 controller and improved

by two fold

graphics have you seen resident evil: zero

compact system

zero over heating

small and compact discs nintendo always gotta be
different

superior and inferior hardware to xbox

growing library of games

zelda and soon final fantasy tongue

final word: best system you can buy for the money
i have a dvd player why would i wanna watch and listen to music and movies on an inferior system.

xbox:

big library of un-original and un-aspiring games.

ooh half naked volley ball player whoopie doo that was
the only thing going for the game tongue

games system is huge and so are the controllers.

plays dvds

5.1 sound

superior and inferior hardware to game cube

slow load times

final word: microsoft learned nothing from previous game systems their making the same mistakesthey have allot to learn buggy half ass games with nice graphics doesn't cut it. i can't see xbox being around very long it flatline and prices are dropping on the system and games which is not a good sign and not
doing so hot in japan.

playstation:

downward compatible instant library of games.

graphics are ok

plays dvds

5.1 sound

good games but also bad games

slow loading time

inferior hardware to both xbox and game cube

final word: better than xbox and out sales the others
the psx playstation 2.5 with dvd reocorder and built in harddrive looks like a winner
overall i think xbox is the loser their new to the game and didn't learn from the other failed systems mistakes

p.s. 3do was new, had great graphics, computer like capablities , superior hardware and where did that go done the toilet don't forget about the cd-i to and those vhs quality movies oh yeah bok

I only played one game on the GameCube (some Star Wars game) and wasn't over impressed with it. In general, I think Nintendo are to reliant on knocking out a new Mario game and they've never held my interest.
One of my best friends (who has every console going back to the Sega MastarSystam) had a GameCube, and he got rid of it in a week... That was the best review I could ever want for it...
I've played his X Box a few times, and although the games were okay, I found the controller a bit large and clumsy to really get used to, so I'm quite happy with my PS2. A huge games library is good, but not essential to me, as I really only play a few games I really like.
And to whoever said PS2 had "vanilla games"...

If you're only going for one, get a PS2. While the other consoles are more powerful and more importantly have some must-play exclusive games, you'll miss the fewest great games that way.

Then it's a toss up. If you love Nintendo games, get a Gamecube, especially since there are some amazing dirt cheap bundles out there (GC+GBA player+Zelda or Metroid Prime) If you don't love Nintendo games, don't bother, because there's almost literally nothing else coming out that's not going to be on the PS2 or Xbox.

The Xbox also makes a great second console since it's got some amazing games, especially if you're not a big PC gamer (Halo, KOTOR, Panzer Dragoon Orta), and even more so if you like the idea of online gaming.

You also might want to wait a few months, since once the holidays roll around there should be another round of price cuts and game bundles.

But yeah, buy all three, and pick up a used Dreamcast while you're at it.

All three. Go hard or go home.

On the other hand, having all three, I'd say the PS2 is the sacrifical console. If I could only have two, the black monolith would be the first to drop off.

game selection is whats gonna keep any of the systems alive. Sega made amazingly superior systems but with their lack of titles they fell from existance.

PS2 for it's titles.

Gamecube is kinda like Mac. Loyalists to mario unite.

x-box for it's scantily clad vollyball players. ( will probably go the way of Sega and fall. Especially once Nokia comes out with their peice.)

Having owned and sold a Gamecube, I just can't bring myself to find a reason to justify it's existance. Everybody thinks the mini-DVDs are so great, but logically, wouldn't that translate into limited space for games? Will the next Final Fantasy game be disappointingly short because they rans out of room? And don't lay that double-layered crap on me; all three systems can play double-layer games.

Gamecube is great if you like cell-shaded platformers starring midget cartoon characters. And Metroid. God forbid I forget to mention Metroid.

Realistically, PS2 and Xbox have almost all the same games. Some of the major exceptions, of course, are the GTA series & Gran Turismo series' for the PS2, and the Halo & Morrowind series' for the Xbox. All my personal favorites, and all good reasons why I own both systems.

Oh yeah, did I mention Knights of the Old Republic?

Anyhoo, for my money, I'd have to dgo with the Xbox. Despite being an opressively large company (or perhaps because of it), Microsoft has made an extremely stable game system (more then the other two, at any rate) that seems to be able to handle huge environments and thick texture mapping far better than any other system. Also, in case I haven't mentioned it yet, Morrowind is the single gratest game ever created in the history of history.

The only bad things about Xbox are that the box itself isn't flat on top so you can't stack anything on top of it, and the controllers will give you carpal tunnel syndrome if you play for eight hours straight, instead of 14 hours like the other systems.

I have PS2 and XBOX. Choose XBox!

HALO.... nuff said.

Seriously though XBox, the games may be a little limited right now, but they are awesome. Both have on-line gameplay but the XBox games on-line are way better. Halo 2 is going to be live so that makes it worth it right there. If you like 1st person shooters you'll want the XBox, PS2 barely has any although they are releasing more. XBox plays DVD's too.
