Oscar, the adorable feline mascot of a Providence, RI nursing facility has made the news all the way to Italian TV.
He is reportedly so accurate in sensing the final hours of a patient's life, that staff have taken up the practice of calling family members once he has snuggled into bed with the chosen one. He's currectly correctly clocked 25 deaths, ranging in the final 2-4 hours of life.
Off the clock, he is apparently not a friendly cat.
I read this story earlier and was kind of amazed by it. Not totally amazed, because animals are known to sense not only disasters, but the onset of epileptic seizures and even certain cancers. I do think it is odd that he isn't very friendly, though.
I originally watched Oscar's story in Italian but my grandparents were too confused to translate. After showing footage of Oscar, they ran several images of various other cats so now I assume there are many of these nursing home kitties out there.
