I can't wait for the Potter mania to finally die down. I figure we'll need ten more years for it to fully go away, then we can see the far superior Books of Magic brought to screen without horrible comparisons to Potter.

Yea, while I'm eagerly awaiting the new book, I could care less if anything gets "spoiled". Funny thing is, I've made no effort to avoid spoilers and still I know nothing.

And the whole "for children" thing doesn't mean that adults can't legitimately enjoy it. For one thing, the books are more dark and longer than most children's books. On top of that, many books that are well-loved by people of all ages were "for children". The Hobbit, The Little Prince, Alice in Wonderland...adults love those books, too. A good book knows no age.

i didn't know they were that good. maybe ill read one sometime.

There's a difference between "good" and "enjoyable". wink

Speak for yourself. They ARE good and they are responsible for bringing the joy of reading to kids who were obsessed with television. Rowling should be commended.

One of my friends got punched in the face cause he sent spoilers out. Something involving Snape. Harry potter is serious business.

I was pissed.

I'm glad you were talking smack about Jim Dale and not Stephen fry, because if you call Stephen fry a creep (even though he may be) there's be words.

JK Rowling is a hack like George Lucas. She should've farmed out the actual writing like Lucas did with the writing and directing of Empire.

I can wait for the book, Preferably have something that is Tangible to read in my hand than just something that may not exist.

while i am almost certain to get the book, i'm not in any rush at all to get a copy. i have my sights set on something much better. something with filth and depravity. drugs and liquor. almost certainly violence and leather (Violence And Leather should be a metal band).

Harry Potter can go fuck himself if he interferes with me getting Crooked Little Vein.

these days i am only reading 'childrens' books! the hobbit, watership down, and mostly these days the redwall series. but i am a sucker for animal based adventures which are only offered in 'childrens' literature.

And if you liked Watership Down, Adams talking dog novel Plague Dogs, in my opinion, is even better.

I like Harry Potter, but I've got The Jungle and The Handmaid's Tale to finish first. Nobody bothers with spoilers about books written in the early 1900s. smile

I'm all for commending anyone who can get kids to put down their video games and read.

Authors are mostly immune to bootlegs. There's never been a Napster for books or a YouTube for literature. Books obviously don't exist in a form that can be easily uploaded onto the web; they're physical objects existing in physical space. Unless publishers allow them to be e-books or if someone painstakingly re-typed the book.

I contest this. I've been reading pirate books for years. When you have people with too much time on their hands, a scanner and an OCR, you have pirate ebooks!

I think part of the draw of the series is that they are an evolving series of books. The first one may have been seen as children literature, but each one has grown more mature, either due to Rowling's skill as a writer increasing, or an intentional thing where in kids could grow up with the series.

i am one of the people who downloaded it; to me it's no different than downloading a movie or music. the quality isn't always great and out of 100 or so pages so far i've had to skip 3 because they're so unreadable. but the story's great and i'm devouring it.

Sometimes when I see someone has the newspaper machine open, I grab the door before it closes and grab one or two for me and my friends. It's a big company and it's not hurting anyone, right?

And sometimes when the merch person for a local band is getting something for someone, I snag one of the display shirts. I mean, why should I pay to advertise THEM?

Look I'm a gamer and I love the artistic side of it. I'm a huge fan of Final Fantasy (particularly 7 but thats a different thing all together) but there is nothing better than picking up a well crafted novel and falling into the world. My imagination is always 10 times more detailed than any video game could make it.

So devour it in the tub. I like to read in the tub, and I cannot take an e-copy in with me that is only viewable on the screen.
