These statements by Bush's former Surgeon General deserve to be front-page news all over the country:

Carmona said Bush administration political appointees censored his speeches and kept him from talking out publicly about certain issues, including the science on embryonic stem cell research, contraceptives and his misgivings about the administration’s embrace of “abstinence-only” sex education. . . . He said most of the public debate over the matter has been driven by political, ideological or theological motivations.

Yep. But try to point this out and you get accused of discriminating against Christians, being intolerant of religious freedom, hating men, or being "too ideological" your own damn self. Gaaaaah.

You can see video of part of Carmona's testimony here: Watch it: it's just breathtaking how appalling his admissions are.

We have never seen it as partisan, as malicious, as vindictive, as mean-spirited as it is today.

There really truly is an executive office and Republican party conspiracy to control women's reproductive decision-making. That they're also trying to control a bunch of other shit doesn't change that fact. That so few people are willing to stand up and say that this is so is part of a broader problem with folks not seeing women's rights, specifically women's reproductive rights, as an important and fundamental civil liberties issue for Americans as a whole.

Which it damn well is, not only because women are slightly more than half of all Americans, but also because women are the mothers of every American, are the un- or underpaid labor force that does the vast majority of the important work that upholds the social and public health of the country, and because our rights (or lack thereof) can and will serve as wedges to limit the rights of you men. Wait and see.

Or, if you'd rather not, again: send some money to Emily's List. Because it should be *obvious* that supporting pro-choice women candidates is one of the most direct and most effective ways of getting these assholes out of power.

Bitch_PhD is still shocked at what's going on in her country.

I am against abortion, but I think women should have as many rights as men do. No I do not want to argue about abortion, you will not change my mind and I won't change yours so it is stupid to try. Other than that great article wink

Yeah, then why are you bringing up abortion? This isn't about pro-choice or pro-life, it's about information being forcibly withheld from the American people to enforce one party's ideologies. And whether you are against abortion or not, wouldn't you want to make a more educated decision about stem-cell research?

although i dont think its a 'conspiracy against women' i think its a complete disgrace that this shit is going down... 2pac for president 08
"And since we all came from a woman
Got our name from a woman and our game from a woman
I wonder why we take from our women
Why we rape our women, do we hate our women?
I think it's time to kill for our women
Time to heal our women, be real to our women
And if we don't we'll have a race of babies
That will hate the ladies, that make the babies
And since a man can't make one
He has no right to tell a woman when and where to create one"

i think the issue is far bigger then a womans right to choose. that IS important, however that is minimal to the fact that the US Executive office is interfering with EVERY aspect of the other branches of the US goverment, destroying its own credibitily world wide.

not really, again, he supports giving women the RIGHT to choose abortion, he himself just does not make that choice, and he hopes others do not, but again, it is HIS choice.

and that said, what would you guys be saying about the SG if he came out and said "SCIENCE SAYS ABORTION IS DANGEROUS AND NOT A GOOD IDEA" (not implying that it is but what if?) Would you suddenly shout that you want him silenced? thus proving your only goal is to have choice at the sacrafice of science? or are you actually concerned about the fact that science is once again as it has many times in the past, being silenced by political means? Would you rather hear scientists tell you to stop something becuase it is unsafe? or be told its fine go ahead smoke up it is your choice.

Is it wrong for me to think that if somebody is against abortion, they are not in favor of equal rights for women?

Soon, I expect the Bush Administration to set policy that the earth doesn't revolve around the sun.

Cheney will then institute a policy which converts our newly-obselete calendar system into Halliburton Time (TM).

This Halliburton Time will make 4-years in new Time equal to 20 years in the old calendar, thereby allowing Bush to stay in office for 10 more old-calendar years.

At this point, I think pretty much anyone who still supports abstinence-only education needs to have a condom pulled over their head and left there. When will these assholes realize IT DOES NOT WORK?

I'm all for the other information that's kept from the American public too, about sex and sexuality and whatnot, but man. Sex ed is really all-encompassing and my passion. That's why, instead of making the big bucks translating, I'm probably going to end up working for some poor non-profit organization to help people with issues relating to sex, like planned parenthood. And these people just don't get it. whatever

I must concur. But, alas, I recognize it's just the vocal minority that is really, sincerely this fucked up. Unfortunately those bad apples are making ALL Christians look nucking futs.
