I would take a hit of herpes to the eye with a rusty needle. Survival instinct. That's why we're the top of the (herpes infested) food chain.

Acyclovir and Lysine-L are great, but they aren't cure alls. As a person who has orally manifested Type-I Herpes (to be concise for the people who have requested it) and who has an ex who has (and had) genitally manifested Type-II Herpes, I had access to some pretty killer meds for my cold sores -- to little or no effect.
weird, works for me. lysine, not really, but the prescrition stuff works fine.
i've had cold sores forever--they're fucking gross. i get them whenever i am tired or sick or change timezones, or get a sunburn.
i take acylovir whenever i start to feel these things--and i don't get cold sores. if i wait too long and get one i take the stronger and more expensive Famivir, and put the topical Famivir cream where i think i am getting one every 30 minutes. this can stop them or totally prevent them from developing. they dry up and go away within 1-2 days.
i've seen people with huge cold sores all over their face. if you take famivir before they start you won't get this. it seems like this is a little known fact.
you need to have access to all the meds and insurance that covers them. you also need a doctor who will call them in within an hour or else it may be too late. many doctors don't prescribe this. i tend to keep huge stocked up amounts of the stuff. but i can't personally deal with cold sores.
