CELEB: 9 Reasons Why “The Office’s” John Krasinski Would Choose to Star in a Robin Williams Movie

John Krasinski is a super-talented, hilarious actor at probably the peak of his career. He stars on an ultra-funny, critically acclaimed NBC sitcom. The one that isnÂ’t "30 Rock." HeÂ’s also quite the looker, if the majority of women in this country are to be believed.

I state all this to show that John has his pick of just about any project on EarthÂ… and yet, here he is, risking it all to star in a Robin WilliamÂ’s movie. License To Wed will do more harm to the institution of marriage than any 50 gay unions. (Cue Robin WilliamÂ’s gay voice) Oh, and if youÂ’re in a fight with your eyes and ears, be sure to check out the trailer.

This choice is mind-bogglingly hard to fathom. And so, IÂ’m examining every possible angle, no matter how preposterous, in order to get to the bottom of his decision. I will also post odds on each potential reason.

9) Robin Williams is a hilarious, genius-level comic and it would be an honor to star in a movie with him.

No. See above “no matter how preposterous.” ODDS: 10,000-1

8) John Krasinski thinks Robin Williams is funny.

Seems unlikely. As I stated earlier, John’s funny. Funny usually recognizes other funny. If he were some sort of “broad, physical,” comic or even an “obnoxious impressions,” type performer, I could see there being a blind spot. However his comedy runs towards the “subtle, clever," variety and he seems fairly savvy. ODDS: 50-1

7) Someone John respects comedically thinks Robin Williams is funny and recommended that John do the movie.

No evidence to suggest a person like this exists. No record of John befriending anyone absent from the planet since the late '70s. Unlikely that John is friends with anyone related to Robin. ODDS: 40-1

6) John Krasinski, at some point prior to the filming of License To Wed, was abducted and replaced by a doppelganger with the inability to register funny. This replicant was then switched back out prior to the filming of the most recent season of “The Office.”

On the surface, this is ridiculous (Though, admittedly, not as far-fetched as number 1). Do we even have the technology for this? What would the motive be? Why bother switching him back? ODDS: 100-1

5) HeÂ’s not really in it, I misread the poster. It actually stars John C. McGinley, stupid.

4) John finds Robin to be terribly unfunny but thinks the movie will be a hit ‘cause Robin’s a star.

Robin hasnÂ’t exactly been a juggernaut at the box office lately. No guarantees here and IÂ’m guessing John knows it. IÂ’ll save this reason for when John appears in a Ben Stiller vehicle. ODDS: 20-1

3) John wanted to work with/sleep with/canoodle Mandy Moore.

Sounds legit. But isnÂ’t he at the level where he could probably just do this on his own? ODDS: 5-1

2) Robin Williams used his crazy strong, man-ape body to overpower John and physically force him to sign the contract.

Nah. Too many agents and managers would have to have been dispatched in a similar fashion. Robin is too old and broken down to pummel more than a few random people a day. ODDS: 75-1

Maybe someone hit him on the head repeatedly with a hammer, then handed him the script?

Maybe because he has absolutely no established movie bankability and someone else writes his jokes?

I don't like Williams one bit either, but he has won an Oscar. And by Oscar I mean three Oscars. Something I doubt Krasinski will ever accomplish.

Maybe he needs to fire his agent.

now i can definetly agree with this list. everytime i see the trailer i wonder how many 40-50 year old women still find robin williams funny because he was on mork and mindy. then i see the excitement on my moms face and realize im probably going to have to sit thru this one with her. god i need a drink.

john c. mcginley would overshadow williams tenfold....although a film in which mcginley marrys mandy moore would be weird, but understanble he is dr.cox

I'm guessing they probably shot the movie a few years ago when The Office wasn't as big of a hit as it is now and he was just flattered to be offered a part in a movie.

I figured it was fairly recent. If you look at John's hair at the end of season 3 of The Office (right after he applies for the corporate position and cuts his hair) it looks exactly like the way it was styled in the movie. Coincidence? Maybe. But that's the simplest explanation.

So, if someone offered you say... 100,000 plus to star in a movie with a 3 time Oscar winner, whom, while not nessecarly funny in this movie, is one of the greatest comedians alive, and a man with one of the fastest wit I've ever seen, you say no?
Odds: $100,000 to 1.

Robin Williams comedy is usually terrible, although Death to Smootchy and Man of the Year were hilarious...

but, you forget to mention his drama's in that little article. a lot of people forget that he was really the first comic actor to try and transition. long before Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler, Bill Murray and Will Ferrel (as brilliant as they may be)

even if you don't want to count Good Will Hunting, because of how popular that movie became (although, i do feel it is a brilliant movie) there is still

All of which were or could have been Oscar films

I just wish he would give up the comedy and stick to the drama, cause lord knows, no one finds robot babies funny

and John Krasinski will be just fine. Even, arguably the most popular actor of the last 2 1/2 decades, Tom Hanks, had to do bachelor party when his career started.

Um, you're comparing John Krasinski's movie-starring options... to mine? This may surprise you but he and I are actually at different levels and what I would or wouldn't do shouldn't have an impact on his choices.

Robin Williams is neither "one of the greatest comedians alive," nor in possesion of a "fast wit." What he has is a rotating cast of stale "comedy" voices and the ability to climb on furniture. Which he'll do on command!

Never watched Man of the Year, but Death to Smoochy is the only movie I've ever walked out of, and I sat through Freddy Got Fingered, so that's really saying something.

But he's not playing a dramatic role in the movie being discussed, is he? Also, I am angry with him for fucking up my favorite Asimov story.

Agreed. Robin Williams's strategy: Say 543 things every minute, and odds are, 1 or 2 of them will be marginally funny.

no, i understand that a dramatic role is not being discussed, and i fully agree that this movie looks to be, and is going to be completely terrible. it just seemed that the article was discrediting Robin Williams as an actor all together, that he had never done anything good...i was just pointing out that there are some diamonds in his career. And i guess with Death to Smoochy, I just love black comedy...like Envy...most people hate that movie, but i think the humor in it is completely dark and hilarious
