Reuters reported Thursday that an upstanding teacher in Palermo, Italy has overcome the wrath of two irate parents after she punished their son for behavior unbecoming of a young Italian schoolboy. The punishment, they claim, was abusive and demeaning.

He sure sounds like a retard. There’s nothing gay about taking a piss at school, and if that kid had to take a dump, well fuck, that's far from “girly.” The bully probably has questions about his own sexuality; his aggression merely stemming from deep-seated feelings of frustration and inadequacy at the hands of "normal" kids. The teacher should have had him write, “I am a gay-curious retard who fails to grasp the subtle complexities of excretory etiquette," if only to make his hand cramp up, which would have done more to reinforce the point anyhow.

The parents, who wanted 25,000 euros ($33,580) in damages, are also retarded for failing to recognize that in the current climate of bad-word sensitivity you can't just toss around words like "gay" unless you're prepared for the consequences. "Retard," however is completely safe, so long as you don't use it around an actual mentally disabled person. It’s pretty simple, people.

The teacher defended herself saying the words she used, “Io sono deficiente,” don’t necessarily translate to “I am a retard.” The literal translation in Italian is “I am a deficient” (though deficiente usually means retard.) Anyway, it’s all semantics: retard can mean “to slow or hinder”, and gay could just as easily have meant “merry.” Of course a faggot really only means a bundle of sticks, but let's leave that one be.

Either way justice is served, freedom prevails, and Guido Jr. can’t complain if his teacher wants to call him a little retard bastard when he behaves like a fucking mongoloid. Shit! Can I say mongoloid?

So, you're retarded if you call someone gay. That's a tough trade-off for a school kid. It'll be interesting to see what new terms arise because of this.

I think punishing a kid for saying a politically incorrect term by making them write a politically incorrect term over and over again without realising that they were being politically incorrect - that seems pretty ironic to me.

That teacher's an idiotic for doing that. Perhaps his heart was in the right place, but use a little common sense. Saying "retarded" makes you sound about as mature as a 5th grader. If that's the rep you're going for, then feel free to use it.

This was always a pretty awesome punishment.

I remember all the times I had to write stuff out like 50 times when I did bad stuff in school... though I don't remember what I was writing... or why... I think it was something about chewing gum... But totally learned my lesson.

I'd put this type of punishment a step above suspending kids for cutting class on the pointlessness-meter. This story could have been moronic and forgotten if not for the parents of the retarded kid trying to sue the teacher, so now it's just moronic.

i had a lot of trouble with bullies when i was younger and would have loved if a teacher had made the kid do something like that. thinking about it though it really doesn't do anything really productive. i think what needs to be kept in mind too is the fact she didnt actually use the word "retard" but deficient. If I called someone deficient is it the same thing as using that word?

faggot does mean bundle of sticks but the reason it came to mean a gay man is because they used to round up gay men. Then they would use them as kindling when they would burn heretics and what they considered real criminals.
