Transformers opened in Australia today and i just saw the movie with my brother. As two little kids we were both Transformers geeks and couldnt wait to see how it turned out. The CGI is jaw dropingly good and you can see with all the smashed up sets and explosions they spent a fortune.
It is rated PG13 down here and it shows alot, it is a bit of a kid flick but with a few more adult funny moments then I thought, it turns out to be not a bad flick at all .
For all the people who bagged this movie on another thread go see it Micheal Bay didnt ruin it at all ,as I said it is a bit of a kids film and we all know the toy spin off's are where all the money is. Definetly room for the sequel and they should do it. This is going to be a very big film this summer.
just got back from the premiere here in LA. it surpassed my expectations by a long shot. in fact, I had a fuckin huge grin on my face most of the time.
i'd have to say it's the best summer blockbuster since Independence Day.
now, it did have some stupid moments but only one part that i remember groaning about. they did a good job of telling the backstory (i know nothing about transformers other than that i sorta remember watching the cartoons back in the day and the movie gets you up to speed without bogging you down)
shia lebouf was good for the role as the token semi-loser who crushes on the girl and saves the day. he was _funny_ too. good, dry, self-deprecating humor rather than the unintentional audience laughter during a serious moment (if you saw spiderman 3, you know what i mean).
and how they first dropped the phrase "more than meets the eye" into the script was pretty great, and at that point it was refreshing to see that the movie didn't take itself too seriously - i mean it _is_ a movie about robots from outer space half of whom want to kill us and half of whom will do anything to save us just because we seem like nice people.
the music wasn't that noticeable overall (neither the score nor the soundtrack) except for tomoyasu hotei. and anytime "battle without honor or humanity" starts up, you know something good is about to happen onscreen. :-)
i certainly won't be counting it among my favorite movies, but it's worth spending a couple bucks to see on the big screen.
yes it was obviously a michael bay movie.
yes there was the rotating-camera-track-on-standing-up-actors shot a la bad boys.
yes there was a hollywood ending.
yes there were tons of explosions.

Honestly, I can't see a lot of high praise for this film here other than the fact that you can tell how much money they spent on it, and that the franchise will likely make the distributor a very large amount of money. These are two things I couldn't care less about and should ideally take a backseat to the actual quality of the film, but that certainly doesn't seem to be a concern here or in the minds of the producers.
Whoa there Rafi old son... It is a young persons film and yes in standard Hollywood blockbuster fashion it is about the money and toy spin off's, what's so wrong with that we all should be used to that by now. There was even a scene were a kid makes a dig at the movie Armageddon, Micheal bay can't be all bad after that crack , hell I LOL'd on that one. As to the quality of the film I thought it was very good considering what the film is .. A 12 yearold boys heaven ... space robots that are battling in a good vs evil smashem up fest
As I have said before I was a total fan as a early teen and now again as a 31 yearold early teen i'll probably go next week and seen the bloody thing all over again
