I am for government regulation of a lot of things, such as making sure that food I purchase is sanitary, but this is rather ridiculous. If a person wants to buy the lard-ass-clog-your-arteries food, then a food vendor should have the option to sell that to the customer.

"Zero grams trans fat" =/ no trans fat

I am curious to know what I'm missing out then... mind explaining ?

The FDA allows products with 0.5 grams of trans fat per serving to be rounded down to "zero."

Thanks for the clarification. Another reason to hate the FDA. Man I need to use government (pronounced guvment) math more often. Government math - where zero is greater than none.

remember though that this isn't a ban on lard-ass-clog-your-arteries-food. it's a ban on oils that are no different in flavor or texture, but sacrifice your health for the company's ability to not change its fryer grease as often. the city of new york isn't regulating what you eat, they're regulating how the companies make what you eat -- it's pretty close to equivalent to making sure that food is sanitary (i.e. fit for human consumption).

I disagree. If I eat unsanitary food it could kill me or make me ill almost immediately.
If I eat food with transfats on a regular basis for years, it increases my risk of cardiovascular disease. I wouldn't call that pretty close. I think just letting people know about transfats and why they are bad, and a law saying that places that use it have to let the customers know would be a lot better way of dealing with it. The government regulates enough things as it is, and it doesn't do them well anyway.
