I'd feel a lot better about this if that kid from Transformers wasn't involved. And I just pray that they don't turn the thing into a lame self-parody, filled with dumb in-jokes and references to Indy's age. I'm just going to trust that Harrison Ford wouldn't do something like that. Yeah.

I'm open minded about the kid from Transformers. And an article I read today about Indy 4 had some quotes from the scriptwriter David Koepp where he said that making Indy refer to things he said in the first movie would be a really bad thing to do, so it sounds like the cheesy in-jokes are off the menu.

I'm hopeful; after Spielberg's bit about the movie being for the fans, I think that they're going to have all of the stuff that people loved from the first three movies: adventure, romance, witty one-liners, and Indy beating the shit out of Nazis. biggrin

Judging from the time frame, wouldn't it be more like "beating the shit out of the Russians?"

Did Spielberg say that about it being for the fans? He needs to have a word with David Koepp, who said:

"You can't write a fan script, You have to pretend that this movie exists without the other one."

I used to think that a good Indy film needed to have Nazis in it, but I've got to be optimistic that it can be a good film without them. Even if the new film was set while Nazis were still around, hasn't Spielberg said that he just doesn't do Nazis anymore, full stop?

Hrm. This may expose how much of an Indiana Jones nerd I am, but there's a desktop background on IndianaJones.com with Indy's hat, whip, and a crate marked "PROPERTY OF DR JONES 9906573" - the same number that adorns the US Army Top Secret crate that the government stores the Ark of the Covenant in after Indy recovers it in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Now I have to wonder, is it simply a desktop - like the others - using past movie scenes and footage, or is a hint toward the content of the new movie? I sure hope they don't rehash the Ark idea.

Spielberg did say that in his Comic-Con video.

Temple of Doom didn't have Nazis, and it was still a good movie. I'm curious who the main antagonist will be in this one. I'm sure Nazis will be out of play, as was suggested, since the time frame wont' match up. They don't appear to be doing anything to hide the gray in Harrison's hair, so they must be embracing the age difference and setting it farther down the Jones timeline.

I'm about as excited for this movie as I am for The Dark Knight. biggrin

Temple of Doom was a good film, but for me, was not a patch on the other two. As far at the main antagonist goes... the latest issue of Empire magazine lists some of the Indy rumours, with one of them being that Cate Blanchett is the main villan - she's been spotted "wearing a soviet-style uniform, black bob, high boots and a sword". I don't know if that's anything new, but it's new to me at least.

Also, I am very much looking forward to seeing Ray Winstone in this film.

I will admit, I kinda like Shia Labeouf. It's a guilty pleasure.

And does anyone know when this movie is supposed to come out?
*hopes it's soon*
