It's a money pit, man. You gotta think of the turnover rate, people only last an hour before wigging out and leaving, right? So Samuel Jackson gives the disclaimer, yadda yadda you might die it's spooky, yanno? So it's like, reverse psychology. And then when the paranormal gomer gets scared and splits, he just goes over the same spiel with the next numbskull in line. It's kind of the same reason Lizzie Borden's house is a bed and breakfast.

Of course, we could be reading way too much into this.

As a hotel worker, I'm curious as to if only the guests die in room 1408, or if the staff also gets offed when they go in to service the room. I mean, I'm thinking it's going to be really hard to get someone to go in there to clean it in the first place, so do they just rent the room dirty?

I hated hated hated that movie. I don't know why I continue to watch Stephen King movies because the books are always so much better.

I do enjoy using the term ass weasels, though.

in the story, staff does not get offed immediately, though they do eventually go crazy

Me too. I'm so there.

Besides, it's got John Cusack and Samuel L. I can't NOT see it.

I couldn't give a shit about The Shining Part Deux Electric Boogaloo. King is a hack. Every book and/or movie is just a regurgitation of one of his previous works. puke

*snicker* ass weasel. That is a favorite of mine too.

His books are so much better because he uses your imagination to create the characters, and you get a personal perception of what they might look like and you imagine them in the action that they are partaking in.

Anytime a good book goes to movie it's usually a disappointment to me, my imagination works so much better than one person's perception of the book. When Jurassic Park came out, I wept a little, the movie was good but Chrichton did such a better job of manipulating my imagination with the book, the characters i imagined didn't fit in the movie. Same with Congo. Same with The Hunt for Red October and most other authors and books i have read.

no, but you see, 1408! 1+4+0+8 = 13! and hotels don't have a thirteenth floor, so 1408 is actually on THE THIRTEENTH FLOOR!

so it's the 13 room on the 13th floor. That adds up to EVIL!

WHO COULD HAVE COME UP WITH THAT BUT STEPHEN KING?!?!!?

and me. waaaaiit... confused

Actually, the short story "1408" was quite scary and disturbing IMO. However, it was a very short story--not sure how they got a whole movie out of it, which means it will probably be quite lame, but I'll still watch it, cause as Salome said, I can't NOT see it.
