Hahah! Awesome.

I wouldn't call it a crappy movie so much as a shallow excuse to put naked Jane Fonda all over the movie screen. Which is in my opinion a very honourable goal indeed. Should be more of it.

I hope Rodriguez is careful with his selection for Barbarella and doesn't go for some standard beauty.

I laughed all the way through the original, I hope that won't be the goal of RR, because films that try to do that on purpose these days tend to go too far and lose any resemblance to comedy.

The Original was great for 3 reasons...
It's camp factor.
Jane Fonda being sexy as hell.
The crazy french retro take on the future.

Those things can't be recreated.
He will either try to make it campy, and it will be a joke, or he'll try to make it serious (like Tim Burton did with Planet of the Apes) and it will just be miserable.

Fuck a remake, just give me a remastered original.

like with 99% of re-makes a total waste of time and money, its probably just an excuse for some crass marketing and casting of some starlet du jour...jesus wept someone must have an original idea these days or im i hoping too much

The charm of the original is it's cult status. It's cheesy, campy, etc. And that's what makes it so good. And what's gonna happen when it has a bigger budget and better effects. What's next? Good acting?! Please jsut leave it like it was.

And besides CQ has already done everything that a remake of Barbarella could try to do.

Robert Rodruiguez is just doing this because he can.

I love Robert Rodruiguez, he did a fe3w of my favorite movies, but let's not forget, he did Spy Kids and Sharkboy and Lavagirl too.

Big 10/4 on that one... Still I am fascinated... some sick twisted part of me still has faith that re-interpretation can be good....

If Scarlett Johansen (sp) is Barberella, I'll pay to watch it.

No matter what Rodriquez does with it (if it even gets made), I will watch the opening with my eyes closed, imagining the original's, instead. Best...opening...scene...ever.

Um, why did you see it thosands of times, then? Masochistic tendencies? Latent love of the film?

I'm not sure of the reasons here, but I often see things in movie reviews, like "Italian Director," etc. I also see things in parentheses like "French" or "German" describing the film's origins. It happens in music, too, like "British rock group Buttered Scones & Tea are touring . . ." Perhaps it all shouldn't matter, but sometimes people with a penchant for trivia or who just crave knowledge in general, be it useless or not, enjoy seemingly superfluous facts.

this is one of my favorite movies ever. i hope the remake does it justice!

or because no one in hollywood can apparently write an original script anymore. they better be careful though, else the entire canon of cinema and bad television from 1955-1990 is going to have been remade by around 2012.

I do admit that if Scarlet J is in it then I'll probably see it no matter how bad it is (or at least wait for the "unrated version" of the DVD)
BTW just saw (the last part of) "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?", Jane's first post-Barbarella flick. Definitely a 180 in terms of tone and subject matter (let's just say you'll never look at a "dance contest" the same way again).
