Forget the nose job, for her sweet sixteen, she wants a designer vagina. The popularity of elective genitoplasty has been on the rise for a while, and the demand for designer vagina surgery is said to be growing, in part due to "idealized images of genitalia shown in pornography and on private genitoplasty Web sites."

The practice has recently been condemned by the British Medical Journal, who claim that there is "a disturbing lack of data about the phenomenon, there has been negligible assessment about surgical after-effects -- and almost zero reflexion as to whether a labial "problem" exists in the first place."

More and more women are said to be troubled by the shape, size, or proportions of their vulvas, so that elective genitoplasty is apparently a "booming business." Advertisements for cosmetic genitoplasty are common, often including before and after images and life changing narratives. Google produced around 490 000 results when we entered "labial reduction". Forty seven of the first 50 results were advertisements from clinics in the United Kingdom and United States offering cosmetic genital surgery.

It's nice that women are looking at their vaginas, but it's too bad they're not happy with what they see.

I like my vagina just the way it is.
Besides, the surgery sounds painful.
Lasers aren't allowed near my coochy coo.

i don't even have to watch eight minutes of youtubage to know this is fucked up.

i read some article a few years ago about how this is the next big thing and it's pretty disturbing.

i guess i always thought that women were held to so many standards of beauty with regard to their faces, breasts, bodies, hair, skin, etc, but when it came to your ladyparts, basically as long as they were clean and disease-free, you were pretty much set. having them was enough.

it scares me that even genitalia are not immune from attack for noncomformity. and anyway, why on earth would everyone's look exactly the same?

ugh.

anyone who gets labiaplasty or whatever else they're selling should be using that money on therapy.

WTF? Will the human race all turn out to be perfect, plastic Barbie dolls? It'll be like a perma-beauty pageant, everywhere you look.
I'm creeping myself out.

Yeah, and it's also scary to think that the women who are interested in the aesthetics of it are comparing themselves, most likely, to airbrushed, photoshopped pictures...

That's the most pointlessly disturbing thing I've heard of in a really long time. What does that cost? like 10grand or something? what a complete waste of money, and a load of pain and suffering to have go to through. Boob jobs are bad enough, but I can at least understand wanting bigger boobs. This one just kinda baffles me. If you're a woman, and you think your pussy is ugly and could really use some lasers cutting some of it off to just ..... ya know, pretty it up a bit..... yeah you can just add 10 crazy points for your personal score as a gimme.

Jezebal has a creepy article about vaginoplasty. A woman went to two doctors, and had a consultation with each. One recommended extreme liposuction, the other said she didn't really have any problems and to be mindful that any surgery around the vagina could lessen and completely wipe out sensation in the clitoris. The first doctor failed to mention any potential side effects.

The sad part is that most of us are happy enough to see the vagina, regardless of the particulars; and the three guys that do care have much deeper issues.

This looks like one of those standout "we failed as humans" moments.

I'm sure there are a few women here and there that DO have seriously disfigured vaginas that could benefit from this.

Life is like a woman's vagina. You never know what you're gonna get. I personally think that is very exciting. If they're altered to look the same what fun will it be to find out what it looks like?

OK, What??? change things down there? I know men want to be bigger, but ... I find that the fact that one is different from the next is exciting wink If it is someone you really care about, it does not matter what it looks like. I love the way it looks because I love her and am getting used to all of her parts, just the way the are naturally!!

SG approves of breast implants, but not labiaplasty? What's the difference? A woman gets either one to feel better about her appearance, right?
