What makes a man a man? To quote the barely forgotten DVDA song “Now You’re A Man” (from the mormon-baiting laugh riot Orgazmo): "Is it the power in his hands? Is it his quest for glory?"

Oddly enough, in the case of Jenny Bailey, these are the qualities that make a man… a woman. A few days ago it came to light that Ms. Bailey--who happens to be the newly elected Mayor of Cambridge, England--was born a man. To further complicate matters, it seems her civil partner Jennifer Liddle also originally came equipped with a third leg.

According to the Telegraph, the Local Government Association confirmed that Ms. Bailey is officially the first transgender mayor in England. Add to that the fact that her civil partner is a former city councilor, and we have Britain's first and foremost transgender political power-couple.

Hold on, is it just a massive cosmic coincidence that there are two post-op transsexuals happily hitched in a civil union, living under the same roof, both buried to their tits in city politics, and both are named Jenny?! What are the odds of having that much in common with any one person? And why am I thinking of Hill-n-Bill Clintion?

The important thing is that besides all the attention her story has drawn, Ms. Bailey has met with little adversity in her 'quest for glory.' In an interview with Cambridge News, Mayor Bailey said:

When I first joined the Liberal Democrats there was a vetting process and they asked 'is there anything in your past that is going to be difficult?' I said I was transgender and they said 'no, is there anything that is going to be difficult'?

Congratulations planet earth, you're one step closer to being a decent place to live.

I think a question I would ask before having a gender bending adventure would be: Will I make for a pretty woman?

Pretty sure the one on the right failed to address that.

Wow - thanx for posting this smile

Even more reason for me to continue voting for this party (even though it always feels like a lost cause, mainly I think as they get so little coverage in the uk media compared to the other two main parties)

Hey good for them. We actually had something similar here, a town manager was fired when he announced that he was in the process of becoming a woman. The good news is that a nearby town looked past that issue and saw how damn good of a job he/she had been doing and he is at the top of their list to replace their town manager that is leaving.

If they don't have a penis, then they're a woman.
Why does it matter if they were born with one?

i can't be the only one who flinched a little at 'transsexual men living as women," can i?
i mean, it's more like women formerly living as men, right?
semantics aside, good for them. it's a good story to hear, hopefully they'll continue being accepted in the political arena.
