Hi.

I'm lactose intolerant, but I loooooooooooooooooooaf the taste of all things dairy. I just hate what they do to my insides. And so, since I've cut back on the calcium-rich dairy-goods, I feel that it's the culprit for my newest problem:

It's my first broken bone experience. And I'm really not enjoying it. Such an awkward place to be all hurty. frown

But since it's healing now (just happened 24 hours ago), I got my brace on... And I was wondering...

Since I can't have milk and junk, what else is yummy and full of calcium?

I want this bone to be strong again. And the rest if 'em for that matter.

I'd ask my Vegan friends, but, they are all on a (stereotypically-hippie) tree-planting expedition.

I hate this one-hand thing, and all these pills and pains...

But any ideas as to grow/heal some strong bones would be greatly appreciated. Preferably in a delicious manner.

Thanks in advance.

(Took my right hand ten minutes to type all this. frown So frustrating.)

Personally I always thought chocolate calcium chews tasted like paste. Even as a kid, I would rather swallow flavorless pills. shocked

I think certain kinds of dark leafy greens have a good amount of calcium. I want to say spinach, but I'm not really sure. Collard greens. Shit like that. The darker the better.

You pulp-drinkers fascinate me...how do you drink a liquid with chunks in it? There is something fundamentally wrong with that! wink

No, thanks. Heavy on the pulp is the only way. I won't touch no pulp OJ.

F'reals. No-pulp OJ, and you may as well be drinking soda. Chunky liquid is healthy liquid!

Unless it is milk. shocked

Is all OJ good for calcium, or just the "calcium enriched" shit?

And in my opinion, it needs pulp to be OJ. Its just juice otherwise.

Tastes more real.

Here, an easy-to-read chart with the calcium content of dairy products and the calcium content of other foods containing calcium:

http://huhs.harvard.edu/HealthInformation/CalciumContent.htm

Tofu contains about as much calcium as cheese or whole-milk yogurt.

Half a cup of collard greens contains more calicum than half a cup of cottage cheese and is far lower in calories and fat.

A cup of spinach contains about as much calcium as most dairy products, and is far lower in calories and fat.

Holy shit! Thankies!

And tofu eh? I haven't dabbled in the 'fu for about 15 years.

My mom raised me Vegan. I used to love the stuff (according to eyewitness account). But "bean curds" is kind of... interesting sounding. I'm not grossed out. I just don't know what to think of it.

What is a delicious way to prepare/serve Tofu? What's it taste like?

Thanks again by the way. smile This chart rocks! smile
