Thought I'd rant here. Please tell me why there's all this demand for 3D games when the standard PC isn't capable of displaying enough polygons to even remotely compare to the visuals of 2D. I have yet to unravel this enigma of modern day.

I was recently considering joining the ranks of the "employed" once again and realized that I can't get a job in my industry unless I want to do 3D art. I think I'd rather not make video games. Makes a great job SUCK!

tell me why ugly 3D is preferred- or tell me why san dimas high school football rules.

Make GBA games, since that's the last stronghold of the 2D videogame.

but....there are some very very pretty 3d games. 3d is coming along. at first, way back when i bought my n64. i hated the 3d. i thought it looked like shite. and well a lot of it still does. but lately, things are looking nice for 3d. you do need to have a decent computer, but damn those worlds look beautiful. i never liked asherons call 2, but that game was pretty. so is SWG. so was elderscrolls 3. they are doing some damn fine things with 3d these days. and i dont know if this game will be what it says it will, but god damn half life 2. holy shit.

also there is a half-life 2 2d game that is being developed by fans. i'm sure you would be proud of this. =]

Kids today have very little imagination. They need movement in Computer-gaming thought-out for them; so all the poor artists work on in textures. Ultima Online (http://www.uo.com) still has a 2D client; and even their 3D client uses 2D backgrounds. Give them a try wink

you can still have plenty of movement in a 2d world, just not as shitty looking. My problem was generally that it's a requisite for the industry now to produce only 3d games or it won't be funded. as though by having the word 3D on the box will make it sell hundreds of thousands more copies. No thanks to photo mapping they almost don't even need artists anymore.
I do like several 3D games, but I believe they were done correctly. it's a force to be weilded, not abused as it so often is. I just don't think the world is ready to abandon 2d when 3d isn't as capable as it will be when the computers that can handle it drop to a reasonable price.
part of my bitch is that our last game wasn't supported by the publisher because of the 2D nature. they failed to advertise or promote in any way whatsoever. they even rushed the end of it to make sure they didn't have to invest any more money- as a result, the quality suffered. it was all a matter of 3D.
