Patrice Oneal is a funny motherfucker. After seeing him on pundit shows and especially Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn I knew he was a smart guy but it wasn't until our conversation that I realized just how intelligent he is. He can pontificate on nearly any subject and is always dropping funny barbs throughout his dialogue. Besides talking about his latest appearance on Fox News and his two shows at Comix in Manhattan this weekend we also touched on just what the guys at Tough Crowd would have done...

Patrice is funny as they get but he is also a class A self involved douchebag. He stands out among other comics for being a dick, which is impressive.

Eh. He comes off as a dick to me as well, but to me his ego appears to be no worse than that of many other successful comics I've been acquainted with, frankly; he's just more openly wearing it on his sleeve rather than trying to hide who he is.
(The unsuccessful ones are usually among the most morose motherfuckers you'll ever meet on this or any other planet, but that's another story - one that's only relevant in that it helps to explain WHY many of them turn into such a-holes when they hit it big: they get to live out their long-planned revenge fantasies by, in part, going into hyperdrive and taking their shit - which always flows downhill, right? - out on everyone else around them - passively and / or aggressively.)
He's also 100% honest re: stealing. It's a given to anyone in or around pro comedy circles that a significant minority of household name comics are SHAMELESS about biting bits verbatim.
The comic Morgan Murphy has a thing right now on her Myspace that's her accusing Mencia of ripping her off (too), and to prove the point she has an "archival" video of her from supposedly WAY back - doing HIS act.
As in, verbatim.
She's a white chick with a frizzy red afro, by the way, so yeah: it's pretty funny.
I cannot say enough good things about Patrice and his act, its also nice to see a guy from Roxbury do well...

Sucks when someone is funnier than you doesn't it? But then again, a corpse in a dunce cap would be funnier than you.
Patrice is the rare comedian with actual perspective. I put him in the same category as David Cross and Patton Oswalt. It's a damn shame Tough Crowd is no longer on the air.
