Everything they mention is standard stuff. The stuff that sounds good for authors is what the Author's Guild conveniently left out when they went public with S&S's plans.
Bottom line: PoD means any book of any value to the reading public can be kept in print as long as there's demand of any kind at all.

You're right, it's pretty standard for the wolf to claim he's guarding the henhouse just fine.
Bottom line: "Publishing" a book involves printing, marketing, and distributing it. POD allows the publisher to print and distribute the book instantaneously. But if they're not pitching the title to bookstores and readers, let them revert rights to the author, and let the author set up a POD account if s/he wants to. Sitting on the rights to somebody's work forever is just wrong.
