Christopher Nolan's follow up to 2005's Batman Begins is The Dark Knight which will be released summer 2008. The film features a recast Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel Dawes (originally played by Katie Holmes), Aaron Eckhart as District Attorney Harvey Dent and, the one we've all been waiting for, Heath Ledger as the Joker.

This website was apparently hacked by the Joker and reveals the first look at director Nolan's haunting vision for Batman's green-haired nemesis.

Behold...

Nolan has been quoted as saying that his vision for the Joker was to be like Alex from Clockwork Orange...which would make him something of a homicidal maniac.

sorry bud. Its legit. The website this was posted on was traced by those geeky hacker guys back to being owned by WB. So its coming straight from the man.

And I am absolutely thrilled about this. We're going to get a very different, scary homicidal psycho killer for our new Joker!

If it's real, it's awesome and I'd buy a ticket for Dark Knight tomorrow. If it's fan-made, that makes it the best fan prank ever. A win-win for everybody.

Heath Ledger is a horrible actor. My prediction is that he will single-hendedly ruin the movie no matter how awesome the effects are.

I don't know why, but somehow the Joker seems to be missing something...

Teeth! Curse that Batman cartoon! It and Mark Hamill's voice have ruined Heath Ledger's Joker for me!

I do hope that is what the joker will look like in the movie because that would be the best, most realistic, modern portrayal of the character to date. I'm sure it wanders greatly from how the original character was designed for the comic book way back but, when you think about it, today's Joker would be some incredibly sick fuck, who would terrorize and kill for his own amusement and the worse it became, the more hilarious he would think it was. Plus, I don't really picture Heath Ledger pulling off the role very well with a make job that is any tamer.

Also, does this mean we get to see Eckhart go apeshit as Two-Face? Or is that just going to be a teaser for another sequel? Because two prettyboys going psycho in the same flick would be an interesting choice.

With A Clockwork Orange as inspiration I think this take on the Joker character will be frightening and psychological instead of one note and amusing. I can't wait to see this flick. Very happy with the first pic.

this is hardly revolutionary, the joker always was by far the most sick and sadistic batman villain in the comics.

too bad heath ledger is the suck.

It's revolutionary for a huge budget comic book movie and it's fucking interesting as hell. Heath Ledger has the chops or he wouldn't have been cast.

Man I'm excited about this movie.

The Joker as a complete douchebag is an interesting interpretation of Dark Knight.
