I'm curious when and where the division of "soda pop" occurred and why it's based on regions. In the same vein, calling all types of soda pop "Coke" is ridiculous.

"What kind?"

"Seven-up."

WTF.

Trivia: soda jerks got their name from jerking the handle of their soda fountain back and forth to get the right mix of soda water and syrup.

That's actually a rather decent argument in favor of calling it pop.

I mean, the bubbles certainly don't SODA.

I still call it soda, though. Too many Coasters shamed me during my formative years out of calling it pop.

On a related note, my 1994 Caddy DeVille had two half-inch deep cup-sized indentations on the inside of the glove compartment door. You opened it, it lay flat, and you were supposed to put yr cup on it. I never tried.
