What's better than a Snickers bar when you need some satisfaction? How about a Snickers bar made with the inner-mucosa (fourth stomach) of slaughtered, milk-fed, new-born cow calves! Yum, yum! What's that? You're a vegetarian and you avoid animal rennet? Well, then you'll also want to avoid all chocolate and ice cream treats from Masterfoods. Not familiar with Masterfoods? Here's a list of the products they'll be making with slaughtered baby cow bellies:

Rennet will now be found in Snickers, M&M, Twix, Milky Way, Bounty, Mars, Dove Chocolate and Malteasers products, as well as the ice cream versions of all Masterfoods' bars.

Awesome! Now not only is your Snickers bar peanutty, nougatty, and chocolaty, it's rennety!

Paul Goalby, corporate affairs manager for Masterfoods, demonstrated his clear understanding of and respect for the vegetarian lifestyle with this explanation:

"If the customer is an extremely strict vegetarian, then we are sorry the products are no longer suitable, but a less strict vegetarian should enjoy our chocolate."

Apparently, "less strict" vegetarians find the inner-mucosa of slaughtered, milk-fed, new-born cow calves delectable, like veal and fois gras. Bravo, Masterfoods, for taking an enormous step backwards. Alternatives to animal rennet are available, but you already know that—you used to use them.

a pox on masterfoods!

i don't understand why they would do this--it must be a cost issue. after all, most people don't even know what the fuck rennet is and the ones who do are mostly the ones who care about not consuming it.

This seems like a stupid move. Less people will buy Masterfoods products.

Yes, because only extremely strict vegetarians are actually vegetarians.

I'm not really upset, because I could never eat that crap anyway, but it's still assinine.

A large part of me didnt need to know about this - and that large part of me is called my stomach.

That same large part of me still doesn't care.

Stomach aside though, my unfortunate brain won't be able to help thinking about it every time I eat said products. Awesome whatever

I'm not a vegetarian, but who puts cows stomach in Chocolate?

I am more concerned with the fact that they have no idea of what should go into candy. I am totally grossed out puke

yet another reason I am picking my chocolate for quality ingredients and not price or quantity.

Sorry Vegetarians, No More Snickers (or Twix, or Mars, or Milky Way) Bars For You

Yet another reason why vegetarians are more healthy and will surely inherit the Earth when everybody else dies of mad cow disease.

Agreed.
You don't have to be a vegetarian to find that nasty.
I could give a shit about most of thier products, but M&Ms ? That's just cruel.

Yes...yes. This is disturbing, but at least it isn't one of those "guess what you've been eating for the last 10 years" articles. In the interest of never discovering otherwise, I think I'm not going to read any further into this thread...

Come on vegetarians, you should know better than to eat that crap anyways. It's mass-produced processed crap. I mean, I know it's meant to be a guilty sugary snack, but there's so many alternatives out there that taste good and just isn't as bad for you on the many levels that those pre-package candy bars are(though I'll give you not as easy to find as a package of m&ms from a vending machine). I'm not a vegetarian and I won't eat that shit.

It'll give you soul cancer...

i rarely ever eat any of these products, and even when i eat chocolate i prefer much better stuff than you can buy at 7-11, but c'mon--just because i don't eat meat doesn't mean i don't want a totally unhealthy candy bar every once in awhile.

vegetarians aren't ALL granola-fied.

it's just dumb to do this given that vegetable and microbial rennet serves the same fucking purpose, which is what leads me to believe this must be economically motivated.
