It's official -- Perpetually disgruntled actor and Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood has signed on to play Iggy Pop in an upcoming biopic about the punk icon's early days with The Stooges, titled The Passenger.

According to Daily Variety, Pop has "given his blessing to the project but will not take part in it". Filming is expected to begin within six months.

Funny, I never thought my fantasy of watching Frodo cut himself and smear peanut butter all over his chest would become a reality. Shows you what I know...

Worst. Casting. Ever.

Elijah should stick to playing a torso...

Why would they name the movie after a song he recorded later in his solo career?

Seriously. I can think of few people who look less like Iggy Pop than Elijah Wood. Surely there are other actors in Hollywood more suitable ...?

besides remakes, sequels, and adaptations of tv shows, biopics seem the norm. just pick out the best and worst bits in a person's life, and heck, it might garner an oscar consideration. most biopics bore me. they may be good to some extent, but if you know a little of the history already, it's kind of what's the point.

gary busey played buddy holly even though he didn't look anything like him. i can't say i've ever really seen elijah w. act, but he is a little weird looking and short and so is iggy. it could be the dumbest career move or the best thing to ever happen to the guy, but that would depend on whether the project is any good as a whole.

So fucking annoyed at this choice. If they couldn't get Ewan to play him again then they should have checked out Chad Lindberg. This cat isn't well known but if you check out the movie 'The Flats' then you'd know, he's right on the money.

Odd that they couldn't wait for Iggy to croak before making a biopic about him... and I'm guessing that Mr Osterberg might wish he were dead once he sees it...

In related news (kinda) it looks like that Ian Curtis biopic that Anton Corbijn has been working on is slated to premiere at Cannes shortly...

With a bit of soft focus, I'd actually like to see Iggy Pop play Iggy Pop.

Weird. For some reason Elijah Wood just doesn't scream out to me: "punk god"

I didn't think it could get worse than Hayden Christiansen as Bob Dylan. Apparently it has.

I dunno, I can can kind of see it if he grows his hair and loses a lot of weight .
The acting is another story though. I don't know iif elijah can pull that off. Although I assume there were screen tests...

I'm happy about the concept of the movie, anything Iggy related usually does this. I'm trying to keep the faith. biggrin
