Should we start busting out the 'Star Trek' puns uttered in the voice of a flamingly gay man? For example, "Set phasers on Dreamy!!!!".

Fuck this! A prequel with Kirk?

Nevermind the fucking oh 80 or so year gap between the end of Star Trek:TOS and TNG!

You know Tholian Wars, Klingon Peace Process, Klingon-Romulan War, Klingon-Cardissan War, Federation-Cardissan War, and First Contact with a ton of aliens.

No, no, show me some guy trying to play Kirk before he came to the Enterprise.

Fuck.

They wonder why this franchise is going downhill.

Because Hollywood hates taking risks on something that's original and interesting.

And now, Gosling!

Han Solo is a chicken shit. He dumped his cargo, homes. I mean, he made up for it and everything... but hes still, well, yknow...

I was really hoping that after Voyager and Enterprise they would do the kind thing and just let the damn franchise die already. But of course that was terribly naive of me. So yay, reanimated corpse time!

I'm not going to ever care about Star Trek again unless they either a) pick someone to handle it who can actually write and let them have free reign, or at least b) explore the future of the franchise instead of trying to mine yet more material out of a time period they've established into rigidity in backstory. Preferably both.

Jesus -- Gosling was hilariously bad in Fracture. Not that anyone else in the movie was any good, but he was king of shit-mountain.

A bunch of suits are in charge of Star Trek and I really don't care what happens to it anymore because it's not popular enough anymore for those suits to allow it to take risks... see exhibit Enterprise.

After the jokes that were Voyager and Enterprise (unless Enterprise got good somehow after I stopped watching it...), I really don't care much for what happens to the franchise.

There's some new blood behind the scenes now, which is all fine and good, and if it turns out great, then great, but I'll just stick to watching my DVDs of the shows I actually liked.

3). Why all the prequels, remakes, and adaptations of old TV shows? Because Hollywood hasn't had an original thought since sometime in the mid 60's. I thought that was common knowledge.

amen to that.
at some point i think they have to run out of bad 70s tv shows to make into movies, but i think hollywood is up for the challenge.

and i gave up on trek a long time ago, it's just sad to see the franchise go out this way (i'm looking at you, berman).

There can be only ONE Captain Kirk!!! Sorry, only one! No offense to any other actors but if you are not Shatner, you are not KIRK!!!

I'm not a Trekkie or anything but a rule is a rule and a Star Trek prequel is as lame as lame can get (or lamer.)

Why can't they just let a good thing remain a good thing. I am so tired of prequels, reboots, remakes, and anything else that isn't original (with the exception of Casino Royale which could have only been better with an R rating and more sex & violence!)

RYan Gosling is adorable and he is mine. love love love

I wonder if he is not too much of a young pretty guy to play KIRK?

Matt Damon has more the physique but, well, i find him sort of uglier than WIilliam-Fucking-Shatner, and it would be harder to watch him mack on babes

y'know, I'd almost pay nine dollars just to find out what the hell Wesley was doing in Nemesis. They don't even have to make an entire movie about it. Just show me those deleted scenes!

What's the problem? a prequel to the existing kirk/spock/enterprise stories, featuring some of the same characters. what has the 80 year time gap until TNG got to do with anything?

i haven't seen this Gosling chap in anything, but he doesn't look the part to me.

I think Gosling is a great choice. He's very malleable as an actor. It shows they are taking the franchise seriously by casting real actors.

If this project is anything like the unmade script for Starfleet Academy, it could be amazing. Here's what I know--

After the triumph of 1986's Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Paramount sought a fresh take on the Trek franchise. They planned to recast the crew of the Enterprise with a presumably less expensive group of fresh young faces to play familiar characters. Though the film was never made, the resulting script for Starfleet Academy is very moving. According to Star Trek producer Harve Bennett, the film explains why Kirk and Spock are "joined so irrevocably at the hip." Kirk joins the Academy from his farm in Iowa where he falls in love. Spock defies his father, and encounters intergalactic racism as a green-blooded half-breed Vulcan. Kirk and Spock were not friends at first, they were rivals. Kirk stands up for Spock against troubling racial taunts and thus would begin their friendship.
The story ends with Kirk at the gravesite of his lost love with Spock at his side. "I have deep feelings," Kirk would have told his comrade, "you wouldn't understand."
"Captain," Spock would have said, "I might not have feelings but I have
memories."

I wrote all about this in a book I did for St. Martin's called The 50 Greatest Movies Never Made. Anyway, that's my two cents... could be cool.

As long as there are red shirts dying and yeoman in mini-skirts and black vinyl go-go boots, I'm in!

I'd really rather see the story move forward. The prequel stuff can kiss my ass. I'm tired of seeing prequels for movies/series I once enjoyed. Star Trek has clearly gone downhill over the last several movies. Move forward already...stop taking steps back.

As I type this I am watching the final episode of Star Trek Voyager. I haven't seen these final 2 episodes since the original air date. I kept missing them on Spike TV..finally I get to see them. The reason I mention it, is because I like to think of what stories would be ahead. I don't need to know what happened 80 years ago. Most of us dorks know how it all started. People want to see what happens to the characters we know and how they progress. I already know Kirk becomes the manslut of the universe..I don't need to see how he got his start doing it tongue

As far as I now non of the aforementioned captains mentioned by dudes have their own fucking maneuver.

And Fillion's easily the best of those 4 mentioned Captains.
