How fucking wrong is this bullshit?

Normally the presence of Larry the Cable Guy alone is enough to induce movie popcorn vomit, but he’s amazingly the least of this movie’s problems.

Well, not the least. The least of its problems is that a Slim Jim product placement is masquerading as a joke and that its title is a crummy pun on a pretty much OK Chuck Norris/Lee Marvin picture.

What Hollywood genius decided this was the right time for a wacky movie about yokels in the military? Where they so confident in Bush’s surge strategy that they figured by the movie’s release the war would be over and ripe for broad comedy? Say what you will about Ernest in the Army – at least it was released during peace time.

Then they go to Mexico? Seriously, what the fuck? Was Iraq not an awkward enough hot button issue to delve into? They had to make hacky and vaguely homophobic cross-dressing gags about a bunch of idiot soldiers who accidentally invade Mexico? It's not a Minuteman as comedy plot, judging from the Trailer, but it's close enough to be extremely awkward. (In a queasy coincidence, a speaker at an anti-immigration rally I watched as a ended a speech by saying “git ‘r’ done.”)

Maybe there could be a sequel where these idiots are supposed to guard an abortion clinic but instead end up accidentally re-opening Abu Ghraib, call it Stem Cellblock or something.

What gets me most of all about this movie is the presence of DJ Qualls. It just confuses the hell out of me. If I was the guy casting this movie, I'm fairly certain I wouldn't say "You know who'd be great for this movie about idiot rednecks in the army invading Mexico? Let's get the skinny white guy from Hustle & Flow."

I'd go see that movie, but that's only because I'm a bad person. And a movie junkie. With an odd sense of humour.

Meh, seems very tongue in cheek with a title like that and reminds me a bit of Arlington Road.

Every time Larry the Cable Guy makes a movie, somebody shoves a kitten in a woodchipper. Please, think of the kittens. I'm totally okay with the utter unoriginality of that joke.

Don't you find it odd that these flagwaving ain't America great spazzhammers are actually insulting our troops?

It's not offensive, it's just not funny. It's a movie and until they are actually outright condoning harmful things, I don't think movies should ever be censored or taken so seriously. This one looks shitty enough that it should never even be given the time of day anyways.

Yea. I can imagine someone making a funny movie with that exact same premise. They just didn't happen to do that.

Its Hollywood. I'll bet the surprise ending is that the kindly middle eastern man who is suspected by his neighbor of terrorism, and presumably excuted by him, is just a rogue scientist searching for a cancer cure. The terrorist will turn out to be the FBI agent, and his wife will turn out to be a lesbian with an eating disorder.

obviously

oh, and to keep this "on topic", larry the cable guy irritates me.
