Scary Stories To Tell In the Dark

anyone remember these books?




there were 3 volumes total. i picked up the omnibus edition off my shelves and had flashbacks to when i first read them in middle school and how creeped out i was. some of them are still rather spooky.

my favorite is probably the one about the scarecrow that comes alive after the 2 farmers that own it keep beating up on it for fun. and the one about the demonic swamp too.

oh damn, I just remember my good friend had them... they scared me a LOT. Just the pic on the front cover.

Does one of them have a decent version of the "Hook" story? Where the hook gets caught in the cardoor?

i still own all three of mine, used to take them on every camping trip.

Oh, I loved those and would always check them out at my school library.
I was just thinking about these the other day because I wanted to try and find them.

I bought these for my son a while back. They scare even this newest, jaded generation.

oh man, i am adding these to amazon wishlist. i used to love these books, i wonder what happened to the copies i used to have

arg, I had a copy of one of those - it freaked me out so bad that I hid it in the basement freezer when I was a kid, and my mom found it one day, wet and frozen. i claimed I had no idea how it got in there

The stories got me for a while when I was much younger. The art *still* creeps me out. All drippy and mangled and...eugh.

Don't one of the SG have artwork from one of those books tattooed on her?

Yep, I had one of them. The rest were always checked out at the school library. Gay.

Ugh, the fireplace picture. I had completely forgotten about that until now. No idea if this is the right book or not, but I distinctly remember that picture. And now it's probably going to float around in the back of my head until I dig through my pile of old books and find it.
