It's not "grass is greener" so to speak. It's more like in the West, if you have a tan, it means you have enough spare time (wealth) to sit out in the sun and tan and relax. Here, having a tan, means you work out in the fields all day and have no free time or wealth.

It's striking, the differences between Westerners and Asians on the beach out here in Asia. All the Westerners are tanning and enjoying the sun while all (or most) of the Asians are hiding from the sun beneath giant beach umbrellas.
