Oh dear god... Basil Rathbone was my first major crush!! Englishmen with aquiline noses.... 
Although Jeremy Brett was nothing to sneeze at either.... I have to admit, however, that Basil Rathbone will always be Sherlock Holmes in my eyes.

Brett. He nailed the part, after playing Watson on Broadway. Of course, the Brett episodes were designed to pay complete homage to the original stories, whereas the Rathbone movies were broad, theatrical adaptations.
He, he. Yeah, I've got too much time on my hands.

As for you clueless ones, read the thread and do the math, for chrissakes! They both played Sherlock Holmes - Rathbone in movies in the 40's, Brett on English TV in the 80's (I think?). Both excellent, both nailed the part in their own way.
