Yes, it's true...
I have the name of that lesbian blonde girl from ally mcbeal and a serious drinking problem. Is anyone else having a serious battle with booze out there?

Yup, that's how it is with me and the booze...we're exes who keep hooking up at weird times, but we really hate each other and I always end up with a bad feeling in my stomach when we hook back up.

i admire your honesty. it usually takes people until well into their late twenties to recognize a drinking problem if they have one. but if you really worry that you have a problem then you very well might.

i'm getting there. i don't binge drink or get hammered anymore but i've had a few beers every night for a year or two now, excepting a day off once in a while. even when i set out to not drink, i end up drinking. it's getting a little scary, because both my parents, and my male ancestors all the way back had alcohol problems. i'm hoping that once i am back in school and have something to do at night, or have a girlfriend again, i'll have a good reason not to drink.

well, seriously, post a message on my board (my little personal page thingy, not the music board i'm always snarking upon, ha ha) or something if you need to talk. i think someone should start a substance abuse recovery group, or a support group for folks who are trying to quit things. i have a sneaking suspicion that a good number of SG members are trying to shake off something or another.

I spent last month drunk. It was geting to the point where I thought I might be starting a problem. I am trying to go a few days with out getting smashed to see if that helps some.

From time to time it's a struggle. I spent a while in counseling, that helped me put it in perspective. Now I can drink and know when I'm taking it too far...

If you're for real, god bless you. I've seen up close & personal what alcoholism can do. Good first step. Keep working on it.
You'll do fine.

My father was an alcoholic, and it was a major factor in his death at age 41 (he had cirrhosis of the liver). I really miss my dad.

It's been difficult putting together the pieces of the puzzle, but I believe he was self-medicating, as I think most alcoholics are. Portia, have you seen a therapist? It could be very helpful.

Hmm... I think ava and I have discussed this group before.

But yeah - good luck sorting your stuff out, Portia. I hope the group can help.

I just noticed that the profile for the Sobriety Group says it has "-2" events. How do you get negative events?! Are sober people so boring that they are actually retroactively penalized, past parties are taken away from them? biggrin

I'm a total alcoholic, but young enough to deal with it. I don't get hangovers.

If you're a "total alcoholic," hangovers are the least of your problems.

Yup.

It really seems to come and go in waves, but when it's bad, it can get wicked weak and obsessive bad.
I almost always end up going overboard and kicking my own ass over it 'cause boy, do I ever know better.

I didn't even drink until I was 21 because of my fear of becoming alchoholic like my father. I get drunk maybe 3-4 times a year, it seems to be working well so far.

Last winter I got jumped by a bottle of jack. He cracked my skull open with a bat, but I bit off a piece of his ear and I think I cut him a bit, so I'll call it a draw.
Other than that, I can't really think of any battles with alcohol.
