Obituaries; Sunday paper. Um....I like Dr Sues as well. Pace yourself. It's not easy reading.

If you're into gritty, epic fantasy, then try George R R Martin's Song of Ice & Fire - really gripping stuff with a lot of intrigue and suspense, told from a myriad points of view. For something a little more classic/romantic then try anything by the author Melanie Rawn.

If you're into ground-breaking sci-fi, then try the Gap series by Stephen Donaldson, or anything by the authors Vernor Vinge or Alistair Reynolds. Can't recommend any of them highly enough!

If you're into non-fictional historical or occult mysteries then pick up Underworld by Graham Hancck, In The Name of the Gods by David Elkington, or anything by the authors Ralph Ellis or Adrian Gilbert. For exhaustive and sensible studies of the supernatural then try Lyall Watson, Colin Wilson, Jenny Randles or Guy Lyon PLayfair.

For something a little more spiritual/philosophical then if you haven't read Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance (and it's sequel Lila) by Robert Pirsig, then this is a MUST. The Zelator by Mark Hedsel is also pretty essential reading,
