okay, i can understand the logic behind wearing the shirt of the band you're going to see to a concert or something... but why would you go to a book store dressed up like a hogwarts student just to buy a copy of the new harry potter book?

i counted at least 40 people (mostly teenagers) doing this last night/ this morning... and asked why anyone would paint a scar on their head and wear a robe for a book... silly humans. no wonder your planet is DOOMED!

Because some people are kwazy, freaky, flamboyant, and strange. I love those people biggrin I have to say, most of the people that were walking around all decked out in Potter gear were young'uns (10-15 tweeny crowd). IMHO better than them being decked out in the latest sluterific hoe costume ala MTV.

or by the same logic
why would any one dress up for star trek conventions? or wear make up to a kiss concert? or dress up like a wrestler to go to a wrestling match???

and i can not see the logic in wearing a band t shirt to the concert, i can see buying a t shirt at the concert...but..wearing one to show that youre a fan???no way, i mean youre at their show...(well it works in most cases, cuz yes i too have been to shows where i wasnt really a fan..but then i wouldnt be wearing their shirt if i didnt like them.)

edited to say i recognize exceptions..

But going to opening day of a movie, release date for a CD, or release of a book is a different thing than just a concert. Some people are truly compelled to be like their heroes in as many ways as possible. When Matrix: Reloaded came out, nobody seemed to get the idea that some people wear trenchcoats and all-black daily. I don't think anyone dresses up in robes and beard (aka Gandalf) every day. If there is, that's just sad.

I suppose it's supposed to demonstrate your enthusiasm and is in line with the "fantasy" aspect of things like sci-fi, fantasy, and even the occasional drama. Maybe I'm thinking over it too much and they're just losers with nothing better to do.

You've know about this for months. Wouldn't it have been much more fun if you dressed as Malfoy and spit insults at them all night?

even though i've worked in a book store for the last 2 years, it's only been 3 days ago when i watched the first MOVIE, and that was almost at gunpoint too... i also fell asleep durring it. so i would have had little inclination to dress up like that little snot.

I don't get the whole harry potter thing. It's a kids book but older people are now getting into it. I mean I like some kids things like Shrek but I don't go around dressed up like Shrek. Plus Harry Potter just plain SUCKS!!!

Inner monologue of fan wearing band's t-shirt to see band in concert:
"Everyone will see me and they will know just by looking at me that I, I am such a huge fan of this band. Oh, they think they like the band, but they don't know what it really means to LOVE this band. Someone will probably see my shirt and think to themselves, 'Now there's a fan.' And if they catch my eye, I will not acknowledge it, because I have greater things on my mind, like THE MUSIC! Man, I love this band!"

LOL.

What, is she deciding on whether this is a worthy purchase? Maybe she needs a new wand instead? She's deciding between the book and owl food?

okay, i understand its going too far to dress up for the release of a book, but surely its cool if your going to the pictures to see Rocky Horror at halloween, or if you just so happen to wear a lether trenchcoat and shades when watchin the matrix.

of course dressing like a stormtrooper to see star wars id mental. as are the people who queue up for 4 weeks before the showing, but thats getting away from the subject.

i'd dress like batman if the lady requests, i even dressed as the riddler at my 21st, got wasted passed out, woke up 3 hours later and jumped out the window.

i then remembered my room wasn't on the ground floor, d'oh!

*geeg alert, geek alert*
READ NO FURTHER UNLESS YOU'RE HARDCORE

In line at a large downtown multiplex in Toronto, awaiting the opening of LoTR The Two Towers, there were, to the surprise of no one at all, a number of eager ticket-clutching fans dressed as wizards. To those familiar with Tolkien only in passing, they all appeared to be garbed as Gandalf the Grey--though a discerning eye saw something else. One fellow, Indian in ethnicity ('twas a proud moment for the nerdiest among my people), had decided that if he were to take on the identity of any of Tolkien's characters, the most fitting would be, wait for it--Radhagast the Brown. The Toronto Star interviewed him and ran, next to the review of the film, a full body photo of him doing his wizard schtick.

That is all.
