13 days to the release of the new Harry Potter. GoF left us in a pretty dark place, and I'm bouncing in my seat waiting for the OoP. Three years between books has been such a long wait. :can't wait, cain't wait, bounce, bounce, bounce:

I don't know when I'm actually going to be able to read it. I work all day Saturday, then have a Solstice party Saturday night, then work Sunday... grr. I might have to come down with a nasty flu.

I recommend a 1 week summer cold....they're the worst.... wink
Then cocktails and Harry Potter in the garden in the sunshine!

Hmmm....actually, now that I type it, that sounds like a good plan! biggrin

So, who do you reckon dies in this one?
My money's on a Weasley....possibly Fred or George...

Will Ron and Hermione get together in this one?
Will Harry find out how he and Voldemort are related?

Does everyone reading this think that we're sad geeks....? tongue

Nah, I don't think Fred or George will snuff it... they're the essential loveable comedy element.
I reckon it could be Neville... or possibly Sirius... eeek

Yeah, I suppose you're right....there's the double act thing going on with Fred and George as well...

Neville's a good suggestion though...he's quite wrapped into it for a secondary character and yet you don't meet any members of his family so he's not too fixed into the core of the stories...hmmm...the more I think about it the more it seems like a good plot twist to bump him off in some sort of valiantly heroic way so that he'll always be remembered fondly by all of Hogwarts...

My money's currently on Voldemort being Harry's fraternal grandfather...I just need to work out the timeframes... surreal

Hermione is going to remain single. Isn't there some girl on the Ravenclaw Quidditch team that Harry's got a thing for?

I haven't read GoF, but I heard something about another girl from others who had read it. Is my second-hand info very wrong?

And do they have to get yet ANOTHER Teacher of the Dark Arts?

They have a new one every year...
Snape will no doubt get the job in the end though.

I love the books! I'm a geek and proud of it tongue

I'm definitely thinking some relation between Lily Potter and Voldemort..

Is it wrong that I just thought what a cool idea it would be to have one of the girls do a Harry Potter inspired set?

and I think Hagrid's gonna be the one to bite it. His usefulness has passed, and it's going to be someone that really hurts. Big Heroic Death Scene.

i'm loving this thread... so good to know i'm not the only adult in the world with a fixation on a children's story.

i refuse to believe hermione will remain eternally single! she's too cute. i do wonder however, how long this book is going to have to be... ::considers testing the structural integrity of her bookshelves::

no no no hagrid is too cool.

ya know maybe theyll surprise us and nobody will bite it. i dont wanna see anyone cool get whacked.

my question is this. okay, obviously, the books have gotten progressively darker from 1-4. is this one going to get even darker? or is this going to end on an up note? i swear the last book had a fucking "Empire" ending. i finished reading it and was thinking, "this is a kids book?" nonetheless it was my favorite of the 4 and im very much looking forward to phoenix

edited to say: and apparently were finally gonna meet whatsherface....the crazy cat woman (whom dumbledore referenced at the end of goblet) that used to babysit harry and is obviously someone of some importance and power

Spoilers ahead. Seriously. That's your warning.

Somethings we know - someone's gonna die, and it's gonna hurt. It's not a minor character like Neville. Could be Dumbledore, but my guess is Hagrid.

Ron & Hermione are gonna get together, but it might not be year 5, could be 6 or 7. Check the interview with Rowling on the CoS DVD. I also bet Harry hooks up with Cho Chang, unless the little blond french girl (Fleur) comes back... she was diggin' Harry when she said goodbye. Protaganist gotta have love interest.

I bet this book gets darker. I don't think Rowling cares if it's too scary. What's too scary? It's a story about good vs. evil, right? I think the darkness that fell when Harry & Cedric simultaneously grabbed the Tri-Wizard Cup is going to stay for awhile. I bet things get worse over the next 900 pages. Things might start to look up in book six, then a big victory in book seven. My question is how are they going to make GoF not be R rated?

I would be so upset if Sirius died. I get all teary whenever I read PoA and Harry gets all excited about living w/ Sirius, but I know it won't happen. frown I really like Sirius.

So, what do you all think is going on w/ Snape? Think he's a good guy or just pretending? IMO, he's on our side, and is now going back undercover as a double-agent for Dumbledore. And as I'm writing it, I'm thinking he may be the one that dies...hrm.
