Do we take it as a sign that one of our times truly innovative and creative directores TIM BURTON starts doing remakes??? As the end of true original films?

i wouldn't use tim burton as gauge as to whether or not hollywood is going down the tubes. he has a 50/50 record of putting out crap. at least in my opinion. now, if the coen brothers start making crap we are n serious trouble. just my .02.

all the remakes should be saved for "USA original" movies...
it wouldn't be all that bad, if it wasn't for them re doing movies that were perfectly good the first time. but don't fuck with " the texas chainsaw massacre" or "dawn of the dead". they are cult classics. are "Willy Wonka..." and "rollerball". redo a shitty movie and do it better.

i dont know if the new wonka movie is necessarily going to be a remake. it was a book first, and the author HATED the original movie, so his family was very careful about giving burton the rights to make another adaptation. it could be something completely different from the other film.

and he's got an original film coming out before it.

there may be original ideas for movies out there, but you'll probably only see them on IFC

The end of original movies?!?! Hell No!

Hollywood is just reaching new lows, that's all.

How's this for originality/new lows:
----------
(From Chud.com)

5.28.03
By Dave Davis
Contributing sources: THR

Ever wonder why more pop music doesn't become feature films? After all, look what it did for Rick Springfield after Hard to Hold!

Well, Paramount feels the same way, and will be turning Avril Lavigne's timeless tune "Sk8er Boi" (that's "Skater Boy", for the non-retarded) into a movie, along with MTV Films.

The film will follow the song's "story" of a girl who spurns a boy from a different background and later regrets it when he's a rich and famous rocker.

It was obviously the song's poignant lyrics that caught the studio's attention: "He was a skater boy, she said see ya later boy/ He wasn't good enough for her/ She had a pretty face, but her head was up in space/ She needed to come back down to earth."

David Zabel, a writer from the defunct Albaful TV series "Dark Angel", has the thankless task of dragging the concept out for 90 minutes. No word on whether Lavigne, who seems to be some freakish hybrid of the genetics from Axl Rose and Kiefer Sutherland, will herself be appearing in the film.

Hey maybe burton can do something good with Willy Wonka. He is good at what he does. I say give him a chance.

How did this get bumped two years later? Also, yeah, but it's not like remakes weren't really really common before. It's more common now, and the trend will leave, like everything else.
