DJ Spooky is one of the 21st century's most innovative jazz remixer. His latest album is Dubtometry is a remix of Optometry. A teacher, intellectual, musician and helicopter joyrider. How many of those do you know of?

Check out DJ Spooky's website.

Daniel Robert Epstein: Obviously your new record label, Synchronic is really important to you. How did you find the artist Saul Williams?

DJ Spooky: I've worked with him for years.

DRE: Could he not get signed?

DS: No it was just a fun...

He also did a bunch of tracks for a cd in the last Adbusters magazine. I haven't actually listened to it, due to a lack of a cd player, but I've heard some good things.

DRE: How many instruments can you play?

DRE: We have mostly punk, emo and Goth girls on our site. What is your favorite?

What kinds of ignorant questions are these? Asking his favorite porn? Spooky never gives one sentence questions unless he's fucking annoyed. This is the opportunity of a lifetime for some...Paul D. Fucking "DJ Spooky" Miller!!!! Suoda, where are you when I need you?!?!?

Fucking hell. Why didn't I get to do this?!?!?!?!?!?!?

he puts on a really good live show. Programs beats on the i-book while playing an upright bass and sipping whine in between. He's a smooth operator and pretty funny guy

Yes I'm glad to see an interview with a good dj. I just listened to Spooky's remix of In our Name, it's great.

Isn't that Massive Attack remix album by Mad Professor, not Lee Perry?

I would liked to have heard more about his technique, influences, more info. n the artist on his label, etc. Question like "Are DJ's the new rock stars?" sound sort of surface levelish. He is arguebly one of the most important musical minds of my generation, and I don't feel that this article revealed much about him personally and artistically. You got off top a good start, but you should have kept going that direction...

As a long time Spooky fan, I have to say I was very disappointed with this interview. I feel like he was kinda disrespected by Mr. Epstein. If you read a couple of his other interviews, you'll know what I mean. This one was extremely dumbed down... extremely. whatever

I'm glad to see an interview w/ Spooky! I guess DRE could come off a little condescending at times, but hey, at least he got an interview with such a mastermind. It's good to have on the site. Thanks.

Glad to see an interview with Spooky on SG, but yeah it was nowhere near the sort of interview you'd want from Spooky.
